overhead camera

I want to post some instructional videos but I have no idea where to start to get an overhead camera shot.  Does anyone out there know how it's done?

I put the camera tripod in front of me and point it down. Then I use my video software to flip te video 180 degrees.

Like ddw4e  said a tripod is a must.

If all you  have is a small Tripod, You will need to place the Camera on a TV Cart or something that is about shoulder hight. 
Do a couple of test runs---- With my camera I find the over the shoulder shots work best

I took all my videos on my Digital Camera It does a good job but the audio is often times compressed. I Have to upgrade to a real Video Camera

I put a swivel hook (intended for a swinging lamp, or a plant) in the ceiling above my keyboard. Then, I jury-rig my camcorder with some string, and dangle it on the hook pointing straight down. It is the only way I could get a meaningful angle. I tried a tripod, but the view was always obscured.

I have a higher tripod but the ceiling in my room is shorter the the other rooms so I have to do the way I explained earlier.

I just put my digital camera on the corner of the pew near the keyboard. I had it resting on the keyboard until i hit it when i changed the modulation switch to change the leslie speed sending my camera spinning.

I might buy a tripod and rest it on top of our organ (taller than a regular B3) which is behind the keyboard Which would make the camera about 7 ft above the ground

u dont need a real video camera for simple videos. I'm using a 4 year old sony cybershot that i found on the beach and the video and sound are good even when the volume is loud. you can get a used one off craigslist.com for cheap.
