How do u know when you're ready?
« on: March 02, 2006, 04:02:25 AM »
How does a person know when he/she is ready to be in ministry leadership?  I mean, ofcourse if God tells you to go then obviously you are ready, but what about not being confident in leading?  What is some good advice on how or what to do when others around you believe you have the potential, but you just don't see it?

That's called, "Faith". Sometimes, God puts people in our midst to show us where or what we need to do to get to the next level in God. Remember what the Bible says in Romans 8:15,

For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." (NIV)

May God bless you and show you His path for you.

Jeremiah 1:4  it was a set up from the beginning.  As a matter of fact pay strict attention to verses 6-8.

This is actually a good question.  Because sometimes we just into ministry before we are ready.

it is a good sign that you are ready when the responsibility of the task is so sobering it is almost scary, and keeps you on your face before GOD seeking HIS Face.

Don't let anyone push you out before you are ready; in other words, before GOD tells you to move, because beleive me those are the same folks who will talk about you when you stumble and fall . . . . "I wonder if she was really sincere," "Child, she said she was something and now look,"

Don't let anyone push you out before GOD tells YOU to go. Please don't make that mistake . . . I don't care if it is your pastor! Pastors are wonderful people, but they are human and sometimes their own desires cloud their judgement. If GOD wants you to go, HE will tell YOU!!!!

It is a great question, because we are suffering greatly from people who are "bold" and actually they have no idea what is at stake.

YP, I couldn't believe what I was reading!  This scripture really blessed my soul.  I wish you could have seen how big my eyes got when I read this scripture!  Thanks!

4HisGlory, that's the one thing that I really don't want.  I'm afraid of this very thing.  I mean at times I feel that I'm ready, but at times I have a total opposite feeling.  Certain things will happen that may be an indication that I'm not ready, but at the end of the day I know that God is preparing me for His purposes even though I definitely do not know what's goin on!

And to BBoy, this is real good info because our church is in transition right now, and I know that a lot of people are waiting for me to come up, or as they say "step out" But I have learned the the steppin is in Jesus.  I can learn all day long, but God has to anoint at His apointed time.  If anyone wants to add please feel free.  Thanks yall really encouraged me!

Amen. The Bible says that GOD makes all things beautiful in time.

Time is a tool GOD uses to prevent us from coming into things before we are ready for them. If we push past HIS Time, we set ourselves up for terrible failure.

When GOD wants you to go, GOD will let you know and you will have no doubt. Until that time, just wait on HIM.

Be Blessed  :D

Sometimes you don't know if you're ready.  Test the waters in small areas first and see how it goes.  You're not going to be perfect. Part of what happens is that making the mistakes, learning from them and staying with the course is what makes you ready for minisry leadership.  If that's what the Lord wants from you- opportunities will be provided for you to develop in that area.  Peace

I believe the joy you get from whatever you intend to do without any ulterior motives signals readiness... The ability and the readiness to listen to tips on anyhthing that's beneficial to your course is another signal. Lack of boldness or courage to take up a position doesn't necessarilly mean you are not ready. I have seen people show reluctance to take up certain responsibilities but later turned out they were the ones cut for the position. Remember the devil hates the success od God's children, so would make you feel a like a failure should you take it up. Feelings are not always the real thing. ! Give it a try!!

;D ;DYou all bring up awesome points!  Thanks again.   ;D ;D

::) ON the same swing of things.  Last night I played at a church, and I know one of the musicians there had heard me play before, so he pumped me up to be this "Great Player", well, of course when our choir sung, I messed up on both songs!  The second song wasn't my fault because I was using their keyboard and 2 of the notes were not working, so n-e-wayz...I felt horrible because I didn't play as "good" as they expected me to.  The people at my church said I did a gooood job, but their musicians didn't say one word.  One person did tell me to keep playing the keys, but we all know that that can be a double meaning.  Keep playing can mean keep playing and you'll get better, or I like what I see, don't give up.   ::)

??? Does that make sense?  ???

:-\ Is this a sign that I'm not supposed to be where I am?   ??? Yall, this is definitely not the first time this has happened.  Actually, this is the second.  The first time was waaaaaaayyyyy worst!

I mean I know this may sound like an elementary question, but seriously...I don't really know what God is doing.  At my church, the Lord blessed me tremendously on the organ and this same day that I played at a different church I bombed!  Mind you, I never play the organ!   :o :o :o

What's going on? Has anyone else experienced this stuff?...LOL!
What advice is there for me?

I think talking to your covering is definitely the best thing you can do.  People around you are not going to necessarily appreciate you and will always have soemthing negative to say....the Bible even talks about how prophets had to travel outsde of their area because people around them would not appreciate the anointing on their life.

Talk to God, and then talk to your Pastor.  But one thing you do not want to do:  Hear something from God and then ask your Pastor to see what he thinks.  I think most people but the Pastor in a position for him to be the moderator above God, so just make sure you don't do that

Well said... I was always told though that it was good that I was a little afraid to be in the leadership role, because that means that I am putting God first... Not being arrogant. Whether it was right or wrong, it helped me to have a stronger faith.

FOR ME GOD CALL ME INTO MINISTRY SHORTLY AFTER I GOT SAVED PROBABLY 1 YR LATER .BY ME NOT BEING READY AND ACCEPT ING THE CALL GOD ALLOWED ME TO GO THRU THE PROCESS OF PURIFYING {trials} GETTING ME READY HAD PROPHESY DECLARE TO ME THAT I WAS RUNNING AWAY FROM;EXPENCIENCING OUT OF BODY EXPERIENCES,GOD VISITING ME DREAMS AND VISIONS TELLING ME TO GO ,I ACCEPTED THE CALL AFTER RECEIVING COUNSEL FROM A PASTOR BECAUSE JUST LIKE YOU  I DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO RECEIVE THE CALL JUST SAMUEL TOLD ELI YOU CALL ME{ MAKE SURE IT'S NOT MAN THAT CALLING YOU} RECOGNIZE GOD"S STILL SMALL VOICE AND SAY HERE AM I SPEAK LORD YOUR SERVANT LISTEN :-X 8)

I agree.  It IS a process! When I say process? I MEAN IT'S A PROCESS! There's alot of cutting and shaping and molding and making that God is gonna perform in you before He releases you.  I mean there are gonna be things that God will strip from within you and in your spirit that you didn't know was even there.
Quote
Jeremiah 1:5 says Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations!
And it's really not about when you are ready orfeeling ready but its when............ GOD is ready, see? B'cuz there's a difference.  Lemme give you an example.

I was going through some firey situations. And I cried and complained  continually asked God, "Why me Lord?"  He explained to me that He had to put me in the 'wilderness'. Now God puts us in the wilderness for many different reasons but the Lord had to clean ALOT of things out of me that was hindering ourwould   hinder me from serving Him in the ministry.

During this time, I had been in a church for about a year and my pastor started calling me "evangelist" and I was very uncomfortable with it.  And I didn't feel like an evangelist.......see? And so I asked him why and he said b'cuz he saw it in me, in the spirit.  I definitely couldn't see but that's whay I'm trying to say. When God puts an anointing on your life......you CAN'T be hid! If you're a pastor visiting a church you never been to before, and sitting waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay in the back (knowing pastors are suppose to sit in the front or the pulpit) it STILL won't matter. You know why? b'cuz of the anointing on their life.  People will see the presence of God on you!

Goodness!......I wasn't planning to say all of this but you got me to preaching! lol But I'm happy to see another soul being made to TEAR SATAN'S KINGDOM DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope this helps.  May God bless you as you continue to grow in the ministry. :)
