« on: March 24, 2005, 10:01:38 PM »
I need help with learning how to play basslines with my left hand on the organ while playng chords with my right hand...I've BEEN playing organ for three years but I never had to play basslines with my hands because there was always a bass player present when I had a gig. Anyway,CAN ANYONE OUT THERE GIVE ME ADVICE OR EXAMPLES??? Well I hope that someone comes by this post and leave something even if it's just the feew words "SORRY CANT HELP YOU." You can also email me at my email address prof_carlton31@yahoo.com I've been trying to get the attention of musicians from this site but I noticed that people only look at my post and keep on going.....I'm not asking for much just a little help...After all I thought that this site was made for that!!! Well I hope to hear from someone.....God bless

I am writing this because I really think that if YOU want to become better in your playing, you need to make satifices....prime example...I see a lot of people here (since 2003) asking for songs written out and I can do that....it's not a problem but it's so time-consuming...look at some of T-Block's posts on songs they are long!! (But I know he didn't mind   ) but what I am sayin is that THEORY will make you a better player...and one the things to do is to know chord names...yes it can be hard but u have to be familiar with it....if someone was to say play a Bbm7 chord...and you don't know that that is then you know that's where you need to work on...as for me, my problem is reading music but I know have to learn or be familiar with it if I am goin to college for music....so to finish this off...just know that IF you want to go far in music...theory WILL get you there!!

And to start off on theory...chk out the e-books (http://www.learngospelmusic.com/modules.php?name=Static&op=6) and print them out and be familiar with them!!!

You at least need to read or have some idea of music theory if you are to progress, even if you will not be playing from sheet music most of the time. Buy a music book and try practice playing certain progressions. I have listened to your audio clips and I agree with you that you needed to develop your playing skills but through practice and perseverance and seeking help you will improve.

God bless !
