Was it difficult...
« on: April 09, 2007, 09:23:14 AM »
Was it difficult for you all when you started being a Minister of Music? I guess what I am saying is what were/are some of the obstacles you all had to go through to get to the point you are at.

I know for me it was an extreme spirit of timidity (which is long gone now). This spirit had no place in the Ministry. I had to learn how to overcome individuals who want to do things their way and members who just did not want to conform to the standard. I always felt it was not my place to address the females about things like dress and appearance. Peace!

............This may not apply to every situation, but...........for me it was trying work around all of the past traditions, and habits, and trying to break down all of the "family cliques" that you find in churches that typically have 2 or 3 dominant families in the congregation.
I'd rather be imperfectly inspired, than to be perfectly entertained...

Same here. I think that might occur in smaller churches and it may have something to do with demoninational "politics".  :-\
Despite our communication technology, no invention is as effective as the sound of the human voice.

It was difficult for me b/c I was not in the FAMILY...

I'm not a political person, I try my best to stay away from that mess but the only thing you can do is set a standard for your ministry concerning timeliness, holiness, investing in your singers on a personal and spiritual level (besides just asking them to sing or play) and things will fall into place.

People will respect you for your honesty and reliability and know that the people under your ministry will grow and be blessed by your humility.

It was very difficult for me because I was IN the family.  I deal with alot of emotional scars because of this.  Pray for me.  :(

Overcoming the spirit of timidity was also one of my biggest challenges.  This was especially true in my case in that I was chosen by my Pastor to rise up to be the leader.  When I sang along side other team members, I was ok, but when I was appointed to be the leader, that's when things changed.

People said that I changed; but mostly it was people's perception of me.  Because I was a leader and had to make decisions all of a sudden I was controlling and demanding.  Its amazing how people act when you try to instill order!!
