Need advice
« on: April 20, 2006, 11:32:39 PM »
Hi fam.  I really need advice on how to give my first music lesson to someone.  Over the years I have declined to give lessons because I still feel like I am a student in training.  However, someone finally convinced me to give them a lesson next week but I don't know where to begin.

All I know is that we will begin in C.  Someone with experience, please help a sista out.

Make sure that you go back to the basics. Find out what do they know and how far along they are so you can make a decision on where to start. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! Bishop Cole

Not sure yet.  People here charge $15 for 30 minutes..I am not even sure I will give more than one lesson cause I am not a teacher.  I guess I will see how Thursday goes and take it from there.

Is it just a regular music lesson or are you focusing on something specific?

Well, she just wants to learn how to play for her church.  I am wondering should I just teach her songs, and theory to play them in all her keys.  I don't want to build her on the wrong foundation though.  She has had a few lessons from this older lady.
