A tritone is just two notes with six half steps between them. So, if you play E then six half steps up and down is Bb. So, the tritone is E-Bb or Bb-E. They are the same length apart so you can play it either way depending on what sound you like.

To add on a bit, andother way of always finding a tritone is to find your key, then play the third and the dominant seventh of that key.
Example: Key of C
Tritone is E and Bb
Key of Eb
Tritone is G and Db
That always helps me to find the tritone really quick.
