Chord Progression Question
« on: January 27, 2005, 03:36:12 PM »
Hello, Piano Players
I have a question about chord progression patterns, I know in the congregational songs the 145, 14251 progressions are used and I know that there are other progressions, My question is about worship song progressions like: I wont complain, we fall down, songs of this nature, what type of chord progression patterns are used in these songs, could someone give an example. thanks.

If you go to Search Website and type in "Progressions" previous post on the subject will appear. You can also print out the E-books for additional information as well as "Lessons" or "Lesson Archives."  If you need anymore help, hollar!

Hope this helps.

Chord Progression Question

Thanks Aunti Joy!!!

Let's take We Fall Down for example...

KEY OF Ab
LH / RH
WE FALL
C# F# / Fm7 - DOWN BUT WE GET
F C / AbM7 - UP

RIGHT THERE LOOK AT THE FIRST NOTE ON THE LEFT HAND...THAT TELLS U WHAT PROGRESSION U ARE IN...

C# - 4TH OF Ab
F - 6TH OF Ab

SO U DOING A 4_6 PROGRESSION..IT'S NOT USED ALOT BUT U CAN ADD A 3 IN THERE TO BECOME 4_3_6 PROGRESSION SO LET'S LOOK AT IT AGAIN...

WE FALL
C# F# / Fm7 - DOWN BUT
C / Edim6 - WE GET
F C / AbM7 - UP

NOW WE GOIN TO DO THIS AGAIN...THIS TIME WE GOIN TO ADD A 5_1 PROGRESSION WITH IT....

WE FALL
C# F# / Fm7 - DOWN BUT
C / Edim6 - WE GET
F C / AbM7 - UP
Eb Bb / F#M7- WE
Ab Eb / F#M7(b5) - FALL
C# F# / Fm7 - DOWN

NOW...WE DID 4_3_6_5_1_4 PROGRESSION HOW I KNOW?? THE FIRST BASS NOTE!!

THE SECOND PART...FOR A SAINT IS JUST A SINNER WHO FELL DOWN AND GOT UP...

I WOULD DO A 7_1_7_1_3_4_3_6 PROGRESSION...SO IT BE LIKE THIS..

FOR A
G D / Ebsus2 - SAINT IS
Ab Eb / Ab - JUST A
G D / Ebsus2 - SINNER
Ab Eb / Ab - WHO
C / Absus2 - FELL
C# F# / Fm7 - DOWN
C F / Edim6 - AND GOT
F C / AbM7 - UP

HOPE THAT HELPS...IF U NEED THE CHORD NAMES LET ME KNOW...I DID IT THIS WAY SINCE IT WAS ALL BY MEMORY

Depending on how u want the chord to be played...now we thinking theory

There are several chords that can fit with that C# bass...Here's a couple..
C# / C#
C# / C#m
C# / Fm7
C# / C#m7
C# / E
C# / B
C# / C#M7
C# / Ab
C# / Bbm7
C# / Em7

SAME WITH THE F CHORD
F / F
F / Fm
F / Fm7
F / Dbm7
F / E
F / B
F / DbM7
F / Ab
F / Bbm7
F/ AbM7

BUT BY LISTENING TO THE SONG AND ACCORDING TO MY EAR I USED
C# / Fm7
F / AbM7

YOU CAN'T JUST PUT ANY CHORD THERE IT HAS TO MAKE SENSE IN THE SONG...

HOPE THIS HELPS A LIL...

thanks, this really helps alot, I have another question, hope this question isn't crazy, the chord progressions that you gave to we fall down, are they based off of the melody? or does the penetonic scale play a part in these progressions?
