SONGS FOR HOMEGOING SERVICES
« on: December 02, 2004, 11:04:33 AM »
i'd like to build a repertoire of songs to play and sing at HOMEGOING SERVICES aside from the usual...

HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW
PRECIOUS LORD
I'LL FLY AWAY
PEACE IN THE VALLEY

.....etc, etc, etc......

There are a couple of songs that I really like......WE SHALL WEAR A CROWN (not sure who sings it).....and a song by Richard Smallwood that I believe is titled TWILL BE SWEET(when we meet, over on, the other shore....In the sweet by and by, there'll be joy and gladness over there). Of course, TOTAL PRAISE.

What else do you play/sing at HOME GOING SERVICES

Here are some others;

It's a highway to heaven, none can walk up there but the pure in heart.
(Devotional)

It is well with my soul. (Hymn)
When we get over there. (Pastor Hezekiah Walker)
When I see Jesus (Douglas Miller)
Precious Lord.

Just some suggestion.

How about...

I shall wear a crown
He'll Welcome Me (John P. Kee)
Just a closer walk with thee
Amazing Grace
I won't complain
Pass Me Not

... there are more, but I can't think of them.

And a mansion in the sky, I'll give the and the high place God said I'll bring down. (couldn't think of what's this called.)

It is well.

Peace be still.

Some of you may or maynot know, I lost my youngest daughter last year.  The songs sung at her funeral where:

Yes Jesus Loves me  (Processional)
Oh I want to see him look upon his face
What a fellowship (Chester D.T Baldwin)
Won't put more on you than you can bear (Kurt Franklin)
Always  [Aint it good to know that God is right there with you always] Recessional

Others that I like and have heard at funerals
I'm free (Milton Brunson)
Now behold the Lamb
Everyday will be like Sunday
Determined to see HIS face!

A few more commonly requested songs that I've played/sang are

The Old Account Was Settled Long Ago
Because He Lives
In the Garden
As I Went Down To the River To Pray

Hope this helps.  :D

When I See Jesus (Carlton Pearson)
Just A Closer Walk With Thee (Hymn)
I Won't Complain (Daryl Coley... i know not likely to hear at a funeral but i sang this at a funeral and there was not one dry eye...the message in the song is at the end of the day; at the end of the road; at the end of life; i can't and wont' complain.)
I Need You Now (Smokie Norful)

If i think of any more i will post them...

Another Song that I have used is "The Other Shore" by Luther Barnes.  "Going Up Yonder" (Tremaine Hawkins) is another Song that is good.

This topic came in handy.  I'm going to play for a funeral on Friday.  I'm mostly concerned about the prelude music.  So this is the list of songs I've gathered so far.  Some of them may be duplicates of what has already been listed.  But this way if I lose my sheet of paper, I can find the list on line.  Maybe it can become a sticky.

It's a Highway to Heaven
By and By
I'm Free
All is well
It is well
Yes Jesus loves me
Oh, I want to see him
I must tell Jesus
Near the corss
God ahs smiled on me
Precious Lord
Great is thy faithfulness
His eye is on the sparrow
Because He Lives
He looked beyond my faults
I will bless the o Lord
I won't complain
My soul is anchored
Going up yonder

Any others?
Determined to see HIS face!

Hey PROSTR8!
I know the song you are talking about! It is one of the most beautiful and soul-stirring songs I have ever heard and one of my all-time favorites! When that song came out I was driving for a living. I would take tapes with me on my route and that song was one of them. Man, I would get so lifted up till it's a wonder I didn't flip that van over in a ravine or something! Seriously, I have it in my collection, but I'll have to dig the tape up. If I can be of any help email me at dat_maestro@yahoo.com :D
