Did anyway purchase Jamal Hartwell's Urban & Contemporary Worship video for $59.95?  If so, what were your thoughts on the video.  Is his tape comparable to Jermaine Griggs Worship tapes as far as the teaching method?  Do you think one video is more advanced than the other?

I have only seen the Mastering Worship Chords DVD so I can only comment on that but it is the best instructional video I've seen.

Jamal Hartwell or Jermain Griggs?????
« Reply #3 on: February 18, 2005, 11:36:51 PM »
Hey folks, I need your help in choosing one of these videos.  I saw some clips of J. Griggs' videos, and I was impressed.  Jamal Hartwell's videos seems good too, so I'm 'torn between two lovers' right now.  Your opinions would mean a lot........I've been playing a while but I'm new to 'gospel' music.

Jniles_NCF, did you get those videos as yet?  Which you think would help me more?

God Bless!!

They're both good. Jermaine's is more for beginners, IMO, since for most people, looking at a video will not suddenly give you the ability to play like the person you're watching. They both show worship chords, but Jamal's voicings are more contemporary. Jermaine's style is churchy, with the normal use of dominants and tri-tones.

If you're a beginner or not good at using tri-tones, get Jermaine's videos. If you know how to use tri-tones and number theory, which most of the other advanced tapes DON'T talk about, get Jamal's. Jamal's video touches the contemporary sound a little bit, but not too much to overwhelm you.

Jamal's video was nice. I bought it a while ago. I cant say I was impressed but I cant say I was dissapointed either. I guess the bad part is I was more impressed with the Singer than the actual video. Maybe I was expecting it to be a little more advanced. Actually, its probably because I was better than I gave myself credit for.

Hey,

I let other people see parts of that video just to hear the singer.
If he puts out a CD,  I will be getting that also.  I really liked
his sound.  Wonderful Voice!!!!!!!!  My mother  and everyone
else said "Who is the singer? does he have a CD? :)

I myself bought both Videos.  I picked up some tips from
the both of them.   I just like to see how others are doing
things.

Eve :)  :)

Hey B3, where did you hear them. I like the PJ Morgan Masterclass DVD, I learned something just from the demo clip.

Cassandra Oneals dvd is more advanced than Jamals, every thing is spelled out, and its 2 hours long.

Pj Morgans dvd is for the organ, but you can apply it to the keyboard as well.

I've Purchased Both
« Reply #19 on: March 24, 2005, 07:48:29 AM »
Both musicians have different styles but still something significant to offer in their methods of playing.  I think it would be essential to purchase the Jermaine Griggs series first to get an understanding of structure of chords, scales, etc., before moving onto Hartwell, since he doesn't break it down as much and almost assumes one knows it.
