Political: Is it right for a Christian to engage in torture?

I'm hearing all this controversy over the CIA waterboarding those suspected of terrorism against the US. If you don't know, waterboarding is pouring water up someone's nostrils or down their throat to simulate drowning. Now, my question is, what would God say about torturing someone to find information? Is it right in His eyes? Or is it wrong?

The United States Millitary/CIA/FBI/ect. are NOT religous or Christian organizations.  Therefore, if you are a Christian who is in millitary or government (DOHS) service, there may be few "neccessary evils" that  you are obligated to carry out.  Of course it is fundamentally wrong to tourture another human being by any standard of decency, but sometimes circumstances require you to do things that you ordinarily wouldn't.

We always see a God of love but the Bible shows a God who sometimes gives a command to kill.






If you caught a terrorist, and their group had your family members hostage and was threatening to kill them. Would torture still not be an option to save those you love?

I was going to say that. BTW, torture and killing are two different things. I think torture falls in the do-unto-others category.

This is indeed a very interesting topic to think about. Its hard to say what a person would or would not do in a certain situation. As a Christian, I would hope that I would be willing to stand up for God no matter what....because two wrongs definitely don't make a right.

I believe God gives authority to the military; armed forces; police; CIA; FBI; etc. etc. to lay down the law for their land while simultaneously honoring those in authority over them. Commanders; The Pres. etc.

Can truth really come from torture?  Salem Witch Trials.  What did they accomplish?  Torture for confession then kill the same for the same confession which included an acclomplice.  Go and find so-called accomplice, then do it all over again.  They were about to kill the whole village based on some rumors and tortured-induced confessions.  A high-ranking outsider had to come in and stop them. 

Conclusion:  You can get anyone to agree to anything by using torture.  Is God giving a green light to this?  I don't think so.

Can you picture Jesus torturing someone, then turning to you and say, "Go and do likewise..."?

ITS COMPLETELY WRONG!!! AMERICA IS ABOUT TO SUFFER BECAUSE WE ARE NOT RIGHT IN THE EYES OF GOD!!!
