Is footwear important.....
« on: October 05, 2007, 02:14:21 PM »
What's Up? Yeah, I got another question ninjas. I noticed when watching Tony Royster Jr. he has on wrestling shoes. I noticed some cats take there shoes off to play. Which method do you play? How does it work for you?

I think I'd be more comfortable in sneakers, but since I'm usually wearing heels at church, I just take them off.

I have seen some dudes play in those PUMA skeakers. I tried some on one day and I actually thought about getting some just so I can play in. They feel like socks almost.

Playing with the shoe off feels great in my opinion. I get a better feel of the pedal. I do it when I'm on my kit at Church, but I just keep my shoe on when I play out. Too many people be looking down at your foot as if to say... "Why is this cat taking his shoe off in church?"

The one don't that I have for footwear is DON'T wear Timberlands when playing. That's about the only shoe I know that could limit your footwork on the kit.

I think thats personal opinion, I play in Boots or whatever and yes its the butters as we call them or the wheats....whatevr, lol, I feel like if you gotta a good foot , you just gotta a good foot regardless of pedal or shoes, if you don't have good equipment you can't get used to playing on good stuff so I adapted very quickly coming up, so IMO footwear shouldn't hinder you, it just varies
Do what you do, but do it well!!!

Personally i find standard trainers comfortable as oppose to like Timberland boots, which ill take of lol.
Alot of drummers say Tims aren't great when it comes to playing.
I'm not really a heels gurl so i wudn't play the kit with them on i'd take them of and put some socks on lol.  ;D

This dude at GC was telling me about those puma's. He said those joint grip your feet and they are light. I copped some wrestling shoes. These joints are light and give me the grip.

Its a matter of pereference.  There is no "right" way.  I like to play in Pumas or Adidas driving shoes when I can...  There are some cats that only play in dress shoes.  Experiment.  You might find that you play better barefoot.  :-\

Dude I spent about $360 on just stuff for drums on Friday. My B-day is in 2 weeks so I will let my fam buy me a new throne and pedal. Right now I am at a point where I really want to start mastering my instruments. Right now I am a jack of all trades but a master of none. I should note though everything I got at GC was way below the price tag on it.

I, myself....play barefoot, because...your foot is free...and you have no limits....but i do agree that if u got a good foot....then u got a good foot....some cats play with anything...because their feet and ankles are fast....but i just like to play barefoot!http://

I like Chucks too, Dex.  They get it done.  The Puma "Thomas Langs" are more form fitting to the foot tho.

Chuck T's ;D :D.. I own a couple pair of those joints! 8).. D4J I can't agree with you on the Jordan thing! I don't play in any of my Jordans because of the fear of getting a crease in em'  :'( ;D :D But they are not the lightest shoes in the world guy! My 14's and Dubs feel like Anvils... ;D :D

I own a couple pair of High Top SB Dunks and they actually are light and have a good amount of grip! But Pumas and Chucks are they way to go IMO.

I wouldn't expect for you to... If his feet are on the pedals, you'd never know!

i seem to have better grip if i wear running shoes or timberland boots, but i have to wear dress shoes on sunday and they slip off the pedal from time to time, but i have seen some brothers play in stacy adams and you would think their shoe was glued to the pedal.lol

God bless
