How to chord songs (template)

This site has fostered a new generation of musicians that read music according to the LH/RH not the traditional Ab/F.  Yes some might not like it however it's now a reality.  More and more of our musicans... exp. KB players are learning not from the traditional school of music more so from the "how do I play this// where do I place my hands".

Some might say that you/we are limited from not knowing the traditional way of music while others can say--hey, if you show me I can play it.  I once was in a Church and the KB Player was school trained (and the brother was gifted).  However, this same cat could not play without sheet music...  So again I feel~~Urban Gospel music has an offical stamp called RH/LH...

I am really going by what helps me learn fastest. And the quick traditional RH/LH and C/E method helps me best. I bring songs (that could be rendered on piano) on a CD and we go through each one by one, sometimes spending 2-3 weeks on one. He is Choir Director at a Church also. He can teach some of the Gospel songs to his choir. So we are helping each other.   

I am burning a CD now with some of these songs whose musical styles I would like to perfect on the keyboard: Selah-- Bless the Broken Road; Kelly Clarkson-- Because of You; Joe Pace-- I will Bless the Lord at all times and O Clap your hands; Kurt Carr-- We Offer you Praise; Rihanna-- Unfaithful;  DeAndre Patterson-- Give Him Glory, Tonex-- God Has Not 4got

Definitely he is going to break the chords down in the traditional way because he has a quite number of students and I spend about half an hour to 45 minutes. A good thing also is that he teaches getting the beat/rhythm and pacing right since we listen to the songs together.

In conclusion, this is all about learning as many chord combinations as possible in as little a time as possible. I don't want to become a perpetual student. Everyone should go with what works best for them.

I'd just like to say that, in whatever format you present it, I'm thankful that you take the time out of your schedule to help others by posting chords (this applies to everyone that posts chords).  Sure, I favor one format over another, but I'm thankful regardless of the format.  AND, I hope to contribute in the near future with chords of my own.

I am on this website and for the moment I cannot find how to translate the letters on my piano... Sorry I'm French and your metod to learn seems great to learn to play... but how can I know where is A or B or C on my piano.

I really need the first first first basis...

I agree that a simple chord chart is always easier to read, but it kinda reminds me of the debate about the differences in chord charts and sheet music. Some people feel as though it is easier to read a score than it is to read a chord chart. I would normally laugh at that suggestion,but if you think about it, whatever works best for you is what you should go with.

wow,  Are those chords even right  on the 1st part???

I tried to play it left to right or right to left,  and all I can get is a bunch of muddy chords!!

is there a page where it explains how to read the way you wrote the first chord chart??

I agree also with Mewsik Harris. I recall the first time I saw someone write out the chords of "The Blessings Of Abraham" I found myself frustrated when it was fully written out  note for note.... so I had to just figure out the basic chord structure and put it into lead sheet/fake book form.  Too bad there is no easy way to write a form of piano tabulature. I have found one book that does have piano tabulature  (found it at the local goodwill and it is quite old).  BTW Some folks turn the music over 90' to the right but that gets me too dizzy also.

For myself I just need the lyrics and the chord name atop of the words where the chord changes and I can go to town from there almost instantly; write it out LH/RH and  to be honest I find myself doing too much looking at the page instead of playing the music.

I just think in the end it is better to learn how to build the chords; a little bit of music theory never hurts when it comes to being able to transcribe a section of music. So perhaps consider putting the chord names in also in paranthesis for those of us who understand chord building.

You have made my day.  Naming the chord really helps especially when my $6.00 chart is on the wall. LOL
