Reading Music
« on: May 06, 2004, 05:19:44 AM »
THIS CLASS IS CLOSED. PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THE CLASS. (SISTER T)

About 3 years ago (has it been that long, Daryl??) I did a workshop on here about learning to read music.  I have found all of my documents I used for that class, saved in a folder.  I would be willing to form another workshop here if we get enough participants (but not too many).  Here's what it takes and what you need to be in the workshop

1.  A computer and a printer
2.  A keyboard/piano
3.  Willingness to play "easy" songs in order to get the fundamentals of reading and get acclimated to the staff.
4.  A willing heart and kind spirit  :D

I will take up to 30 students for the class.  Daryl will (GET THIS, DARYL) :D  :!: make a seperate room for us to hold the workshop on here and give access ONLY to those people who are in the workshop.

--No jumping in the workshop a week after we started.

If you're interested in being in the workshop, please sign up by responding to THIS post no later than next Monday, May 10th.  The workshop will start TUESDAY, MAY 11th.

God Bless all!

Love,
Lisa

Hey Sister T: GIRLFRIEND, WE HAVE TO CATCH UP!!  I'll call you over the weekend!

Thanks to everyone for the responses!  Daryl will get us all set up.  There won't be a "time of day" to answer one question asked.  Information will be set there and then we can ask questions, have discussions much like here with posted messages.

God Bless!  Talk to you all soon!

Love,
Lisa

Great!!!  Lots of eager folks.  Thanks for the room too, Daryl.

I will be ready to begin on TUESDAY, MAY 11th.

If you're tentative about joining up or aren't sure what to expect, here's a little more info:

I will:
1.  Post a few documents (Microsoft Word Format) the first day as an introduction and the beginning stages of the course.  Even if you think you know it, still print it and save it.  One day, someone may ask you to teach them how to read music, or you may host a workshop at your church for the youth.
2.  We will have a practice lesson--give a few days inbetween
3.  Another lesson moving to the left hand and practice, and so on.

We will also learn:

Key Signature and how to simply glance at the music staff and know the key the song is in!
The Circle of 5ths as it relates to the key signatures
Time Signatures
Note Values (what is that note with the little flag on it??)
etc.

Where appropriate, I will also post midis and be able to scan some newer sheet music songs that we can practice on.  BUT REMEMBER WE START WITH THE VERY BASICS.  I'm a third grade school teacher, so basic is in my vocabulary.

I have about 6 MB work of files already just for this workshop.  As the Lord leads and time permits, I will add more, take away, or make a midi here and there.

In the room, we can check in with each other, encourage each other, answer any questions.  You can post a question (which I can answer or anyone can answer).  It's like a lot of documents and material you may have seen online.  The good thing here is the repoire with the instructor (me) and the repoire with each other---it will be like attending a class together  :D And no question is a stupid question.

See you all on Tuesday.  Daryl, email me with any particulars about the room.

Love,
Lisa

Awesome responses and interest!

So far, up to this post, there's 14 participants.   There's room for 16 more.  With my experience, I think I took 25 on last time, and about 12 stuck with it til the end (about 3 or 4 weeks long workshop).  I know this time, all 30 will stick with!   8)

God Bless!
Love,
Lisa
