I'm Not Ministering Anymore
« on: May 01, 2004, 10:51:26 PM »
I've just had it. I'm not doing this anymore.

I'm not playing anymore. They can just forget it.

I'm tired of being taken advantage of. No-one appreciates it, and everyone is a critic. Everyone is late, no one will sing, and I'm just tired of it. I used to love playing, but there's no more joy in it. I'm not doing it anymore.

Most of us have felt that way. LISTEN . . . MOST (if not ALL) OF US HAVE FELT LIKE THIS AT SOME POINT.

Listen . . . what makes you think you will do anything but make yourself miserable? WHen Jeremiah said that he wasn't going to prophesy anymore, he found out that the calling didn't leave him. In fact, he found out that it was like fire shut up in his bones . . . he had to go back to what God called him to do!

And how about you? I know you are tired of all the lazy choir members, the unappreciate people who think you have nothing better to do than spend hours a day learning a song . . . who think that music isn't work or ministry . . . I know. But after you sit down and refuse to play or sing, can you be anything but miserable?

"But I'm so TIRED of all this!" I know. So rest a bit if you must . . . tell God all about it; how frustrated you are, how angry you get sometimes, how you want to be better . . . tell Him all of it. Now tell Him how much you need Him, how grateful you are that He gave you such a wonderful gift, how you just want the music to be good for Him and give Him glory. Ask God to strengthen you so quitting is the furthest thing from your mind. Thank God for saving you, and ask God to anoint your playing so it helps someone else.

Now ask God how to deal with what is troubling you. Prayerfully ask God to, in His perfect timing, tell you how to deal with frustrating situations. Don't think that they will work themselves out, they won't. You are called to occupy till He comes . . . that means we have to do something.

Now sing and play for Him. If you can't play for everyone, play for someone. Give God the glory. PLEASE DON'T HOLD BACK YOUR GIFT BECAUSE OF SOMEONE ELSE WHO DID YOU WRONG. We need your gifts.

Be Blessed . . . .

And please know, saints, you all are such an encouragement to continue in music and writing. This is actually part of a three-part series called "The Martyr's Spirit and the Musician, I'm done feeling sorry for myself." It's about musicians who sing the blues.  8O

Please pray for me.

You ask what is keeping you there.

Does your church need you? For music or for anything else? Then you get one guess as to what . . . or rather WHO . . . is keeping you there.

Be Blessed . . .

Hi, I'm new to this site. I had to respond to this!    I am the only musician in my church. I have a Roland 54000 kepboard so I am able to use much of the features to help with the sounds. I have no drummer, no director, only me (and the spirit). I have three choirs so I am always searching for different kinds of music. Sometimes I feel that the members of my church don't understand or appreciate the time I spend in preparing songs for worship. I have a full time job (Teacher) and two teenage girls who keeps me busy, and not to mention and husband who also needs my attention. There are times when I am up till 1:00am working on music for the next days rehearsal.  8O . (I have at least three rehearsals per week).  I recently made a re-comittment to God to give all that I have in this ministry. I know I should not be doing this for earthly rewards, however, I can't help but feel somewhat unappreciative when I hear about other musicians getting appreciation services and such.   :( I know I'm going to the YOU ARE NOT DOING THIS FOR MAN BUT FOR GOD response so let me say this. Am I not human?  :x  Everyone likes a simple thank you or good job once in a while! I have been at this church for 10 years. (married into AME; raised baptist) Anyway, I just wanted to vent a little. Sometimes that helps.   I know where my reward comes from but can I get a simple THANK YOU!
