To add on, isn't it wonderful that musicians are influenced by all types of music? For instance, I really like the guitar parts and folksy gospel music of groups like "Big Tent Revival." I also like the southern style songs of singers like Dottie Rambo and I really like "He is Jehovah, the God that Healeth thee." by Betty Jean Robinson.
If you haven't heard the Katinas, treat yourself to one of their CD's. They are a group of young saints from Samoa, who can SANG. No not sing, they can SANG.
Then I like the gospel jazz recordings of Ben Tankard, and Micheal Smith has a CD out that is all gospel instrumental music, but is inspired by the Scottish / Welsch folk music.
So music is from God, all of it. The enemy stole it, but it was created to serve God. I think when some people say "Black" music, they are talking about our style of playing on the pentatonic scale and throwing in a lot of major sevenths and eleventh chords, which gives Black gospel a unique flavor. But the other gospel music styles are great . . . give it a try; ya might learn sump'in! And nothing is better than a well-rounded musician that can play for gospel services and then take that same anointing to more traditional services.
Be Blessed . . . BBoy
