Any good A Cappella Piece for Teens?
« on: April 02, 2006, 04:30:44 PM »
I have a group of 5-6 high school juniors/seniors and am looking for a simple (hopefully 2-part) a cappella piece (spiritual). Does anybody know good pieces or has anybody composed good ones?

I appreciate your advice!

If their voices sound as good as I'm assuming, then harmonizing His eye is on the Sparrow, or Take courage my Soul (encourage my soul to some) would be nice with them. Take courage my soul sounds nice acapella, but for his eye is on the sparrow, you will have to get creative. I can imagine soprano, alto, and tenor parts, and the other two doing scat-libs (scats and ad-libs). Teens are creative (I would know, I am one) so ya'll just put ya'll heads together and tweak the songs.

Most hymns should work.  And don't worry about them seeming "old."  They are severely missed and people would be very appreciative.

You could try Byron's Thou Art a SHield For Me: Psalm #. It sounds terrific w/out music and all harmonized and stuf.

Yeah, even though some music is played along, it can easily be sing without music. Another one I can't think of right now is by Florida A&M University Gospel Choir. Once I locate my cd and listen for the song, I'll post it.

Another Walt Whitman classic, "Holy Holy Holy", I think 5-6 youth can pull it off  :)
