Question about The Passion Of The Christ about Jesus's death
« on: April 20, 2004, 08:54:20 PM »
I no most of you have seen the movie...but unfortuntely, i haven't yet :(  :( . But I was in bible study tonite and we were talking about the movie of the part where Jesus had to carry his own cross until Simon came in and helped him. Since either me nor my Pastor seen the movie, he wanted to know (he knew the answer) according to what gospel(s)did Mel Gibson use in the movie. So I thought i ask yall which book(s) you think it was?

I help yall out with the scriptures (From the God's Word Bible)....

Matthew 27:32  On the way they found a man named Simon. He was from the city of Cyrene. The soldiers forced him to carry Jesus' cross.

Mark 15:21  A man named Simon from the city of Cyrene was coming into Jerusalem from his home in the country. He was the father of Alexander and Rufus. As he was about to pass by, the soldiers forced him to carry Jesus' cross.

Luke 23:26  As the soldiers led Jesus away, they grabbed a man named Simon, who was from the city of Cyrene. Simon was coming into Jerusalem. They laid the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus.

John 19:17  He carried his own cross and went out of the city to a location called The Skull. (In Hebrew this place is called Golgotha.)

Hope this helps!!!
MERCY EN!!

I believe it referenced Matthew or Luke.  I say this because there was no reference to Simon's family.  You can tell that he was forced.  After reading the verses again, I lean more toward the verses from Luke.  In the movie, Simon appeared to be a passerby that was truly forced.

Shux, I don't know.  I just thought I'd add my input.  What do you guys think?

Question about The Passion Of The Christ about Jesus's death

Hi got a question too, but I really don't want to start another post for it.
Although I don't have the scripture verse in front of me but we discuss this at the Bible college. In the movie Judas when he went to hang himself he was hang the normal way with his head upwords, but according to the bible (and you can correct me) when he hang himself and when he died it was upside down.
Don't ask me how hanging upside down is posible because I am going strictly according to the Bible. Did anyone pick this up or was it just ones of that things not possible in a movie.
