How do you take it to the next level?
« on: January 27, 2006, 01:04:02 PM »
I have been playing 3-4 years... I only practiced faithfully the first year... Gospel keyboard came SO easy to me in less than a year I was sounding better than some of my 5-10 year veteran friends... Musician friends/people at my church think i'm nasty on keys but my question is.. How do you take it to the next level?  I mean, I need to hear/learn from some awesome board players because now I'm starting to get bored.  Help me!

I always find these questions hard to answer because everyone is at different levels.  The first question I always ask is:

Can you play in all 12 keys??  Alot of people say they are "advanced" but only play in one or two keys.  If you aren't fluent in all keys, I would start there.

I agree totally with 4hisglory.  If you can be totally proficient in all keys.
This means not just knowing them but applying the same tenacity, drive and creativity in all the keys.  When you can do this then there probably is another level to obtain.
