Singing too long
« on: October 26, 2005, 10:55:53 PM »
If you are a gospel singer and you are before the people singing, do you ever get a "check" in your spirit that you may be singing too long. I know I have noticed with others that they will have revamps over and over and I am thinking "bring it on home" but they keep going. I wonder do I do that or should we be more aware?

Girl, that goes for singers, musicians, preachers, praise dancers etc. My old pastor once said, "you have to know your exit"

I was watching TBN and there was group that was singing. They "sucked" up the annointing and did not leave any for the preaching. Lord help because I do now want to get in the way!

My pastor and I were just talking about that.  We both have different analogies for the same thing.  When he is preaching, he calls it knowing when to land the plane.

With my praise team members, I tell each of them that when leading a song you do have the freedom to go where the wave of the Spirit leads you, but if the wind stops blowing, you have to know when to dock the boat. Otherwise you just end up floating in still stagnant water. 'Yuck' :?  8O

That gets aggrevating to me when the singers keep singing just to be singing. We have a prayer line sometimes and the leaders will sing a song the the most of the prayer line for different reasons. Sometimes they do it because they cant think of anything else to sing. Sometimes they dont want to sing anything else. Basically to waste time to get it over with. I think most of this stems from a lack of being prepared. I see this many times with singers at my church. They dont really practice for prayer, annointing lines, and altar call.
Vision without action is just day dreaming. I miss practicing.

Our choir screams every Sunday. For some reason when the annointing falls members start hollering. I dont understand why directors don't correct this maybe because they are doing it too. :D It's kinda funny how if a musician messes up when the annointing is falling people come out the spirit but if the choir is hollering they get into it more. Some people get the feeling that you are trying to quench the Spirit if you are stopping them from hollering.   I feel we should think more along the lines of channeling (for lack of a better term) the annointing into what we are doing. Who would like it if the musician started to play and just started shouting on every song and stop playing. I used to shout alot before I started playing. The Spirit would move upon me and I would go off. Now when the Spirit moves upon me I feel it come out through my music and I feel it all over me. This is not the case all the time. I think singers need to learn to channel this through their mouths as they sing unto God. The good think about playing keys is that you learn to transfer the spiritual knowledge you gain into other areas like singing.

Good points! Most of Jesus' public prayers were SHORT! His parables were SHORT! The common attention span is SHORT! so why do we feel like for it to be annointed and holy that it has to be extended! Keep it coming!

Sam:

You are so wrong...    but so right. It kills a song when the singer or a choir just start screaming their heads off. Hit it and quit it.

I agree that all true C.O.G.(Children of G_d) need to be more receptive to G_d's Sprit of order.  As Jesus warned us:  Be not like the hypocrites with their vain utterings.

Why is the "o" out of God. Without it you've got nothing?

To sjonathan and sisternikki
Thank you for your feedback on not spelling God fully.  It always concerned me why the Jews write the incomplete word God.  I've read they believe He is too great to be described in a word, but it seems to imply concealment or even uncertainty.  My God(Our God) is love and His goodness is everlasting.

Question:  What has been your experience in being more attuned to the Holy Ghost when praiseing and ministering through song?
