I need you guy's opinion on something.  As some of you guys know, I'm planning on getting my personal drum kit soon.  I've narrowed it down to 4 kits that I like.  It's kind of hard to decide.  All four are intermediate kits and around the same price.  Can you guys help me?  Opinions or experiences are welcome also.

Jfunk I say go with the Pacific or either the yamaha set. Both of those are some great sounding drums and a very good price.

TAMA or YAMAHA. I have a TAMA Swingstar and it sounds better than some high ends that I have heard. Either one will do you good!

God Bless.

PACIFIC ALL THE WAY !    I've played all types of drums sets and I own a pacific set and for looks and sounds I would say PDP all the way.

I also would take the Pearl Export over all the others, but you dont have it on your list, so I left it out.

I would go with either the PDP or the Catalina because those kits are midrange but made of one type of wood instead of a mixture of wood or a cheaper wood like their counterparts. For looks I would choose the Catalina over PDP though. Besides, you don't see the Catalina everywhere you go. That would be my pick.

PDP and get it at Drums2Go. The kit actually comes with 2 cymbal stands, hihat stand and footpedal. D2G has the best selection and best deal in Orlando on PDP. Or the new Sonors which are all maple for around the same price. D2G are the only ones in O-town with Sonor.

What do you guys think?  It's the new PDP MX.  What is matte anyway?

Here's the Yamaha that I was also looking at.

JFunky, how much are you looking to spend? Is Money an issue? How about hardware? Matte Finish is simply no gloss. Its a stain of some sort, but they do not finish it with a glossy finish.

God Bless

I'm not planning to go all out DW or Pearl Reference.  I just want a nice intermediate 5 pc. kit to go out to our new churches and play with our other church musicians.  Those churches are small and some are just starting out.  This kit will also be used in Youth Retreats and Conferences.  Mostly on the road you feel me. I do understand that whatever kit I get will need an upgrade on the hardware.  I like Pearl's stands and Tama's stands.  Nice and sturdy.

I think that the PDP or the Yamaha would be a good choice for you. The determining factor should be yours. and You should take into consideration, finishes, and which mounting system you like more. Now me personally, I am constantly setting up and taking down my kit. I have top of the line Tama Stands with the tilt and all. I love them, It was just a matter of time and space to take them down and set them back up. I had 4 stands. SO, I bought the Pearl ICON Rack. JUST THE FRONT BAR ALONE. I bought that with all the clamps I need for a little under $200!!! Which is the price of a nice high quality stand. I would suggest that route if you are going to be traveling. I have managed to mount 8,10,12,14 Toms as well as 12" splash, 16 & 17 crashes and a 20" ride all on my one bar rack!!!! Its awesome. That would be my hardware choice.

God Bless.

Eric-rhythm very good choice on your last post PDP.  Jfunk you can't beat that deal that drums2go is offering. Rather you need the hardware or not, there giving it to you. Ask for a upgrade make sure its not the cheap hardware that I have heard some people complain about. I have a pacific as well, and I love my kit and its hardware. That new MX line is sweet by Pacific, if I can keep my wife out of the stores, i will be buying the green one.

kaddw - I'm doing my research right now on the PDP MX.  Did you see the pic. that I posted with the new finish?  That's just nasty.  I like the new LXE also.  They look beautiful.  I'm leaning towards the CX because it's a wrapped finish and I was told that wrapped finishes are good for nicks and dents here and there since I will be moving the kit a lot, you know?  Anyway, thank you guys for your help.

Actually I did not check out the pic. but i will be doing so. I have a cx by pacific the black onyx one. Its lovely and even though I do all I can do to keep it from being scratched, i have been told the same thing about finishes.

The LXE is a very nice finish. However, is that finish worth the extra $500-$800 that its going to cost? As far as I know, there is no difference between the LXE and the LX, besides the finish and price. My kit has covers. And i really wish it didn't. I am sure that covers hold up a little better than just the drum itself, but they still get scratched and banged up. Mine did. I love the look of the wood, and the finishes that you can get...I would go with LX or MX. but thats just me.

God Bless Brother.

Jfunk those are some nice woods, I have the pacific magazine and I saw it in there. I agree with eccentric and that is the LX is pretty much the same. However how is the research going?
