Learning New Chords/Songs
« on: February 21, 2016, 03:33:37 PM »
Hi all,

This question is for more advanced musicians.

What are your tips for learning "Phat Chords" and where to incorporate them.

Also how do you pick up chords from songs on a CD/Youtube. I can pick up the basic chord structure but not the altered chords/"phat chords".

Thank you.

My advice would be to learn about chords and the theory that goes into creating them (i.e. major, minor, diminished, 7ths, 11ths, etc....). This helps to increase your musical vocabulary (more chords = more options). There are a ton of websites that explain in detail.

Besides that you can check out these people on youtube:

Along with that, my advice is that once you know what the notes are for the chord, practice different voicings. Make a musical exercise out of it and learn it in every key. Practice using different speeds as well.
Real musicians play in every key!!!
Music Theory, da numbers work!
