Question about duets

When a man and a woman is doing a duet, do you change keys when each one sings or how do you play a duet?
A girl and a man are doing a duet at my church. She starts the song, so I play in the key she's singing in. He comes in and then it sounds weird. Rellllp!!!

No usually they sing it in the same key, it would be awkward to change for each singer unless it was written into the song.

Usually you can put the key in a range that overlaps each, encompassing both.

If they have experience, a good musical ear and know the song, one can sing the melody while the other does harmony.

If that fails, sometimes you can find a key where each can sing melody, usually in octaves.

The song they are going to sing is "Break every chain" by Tasha Cobb. She sounds AWESOME by herself but everyone wanted them to sing the song together, so here we go.  ::) I hate when people over-complicate things. I'm honestly stuck on this one.

Unless 'everyone' is in music ministry, they should not have a vote.

yeah they should def be in the same key. Im probable late on this but check out the choirlist.com a website dedicated to vocal rendition to popular gospel songs. It could help you next time your in a situation like that.
