I just believe that men should at least KNOW the "components" of chivalry. And that was my point. Even if he doesn't believe in it or doesn't want to do it (or his lady doesn't think it's necessary), he'll at least know what it's all about.

It may not be a matter of life or death, but I think every man should know the basics of how to dress, like how to differentiate between winter clothes and summer clothes (aside from the obvious sweaters or shorts). It surprises me how many guys don't know that corduroys are for winter, linen for summer, etc. They should know that white socks are NEVER, EVER, EVER to be worn with dress shoes. They should know, as BBG said, that polished shoes yield points. They should know that the tag that comes on the sleeve of a new suit is supposed to be removed (country folks ignore that rule as though it doesn't even exist... lol). They should know that it only costs about $7 to put taps on your shoes.

Is every man you meet worthy of your time and respect? I'm not saying to be disrespectful to anyone, but men can not entertain and treat every woman like a queen when she's just a hoodrat. Many of us have not been taught that.

OK I do pretty good dressing myself although I do break the rules every once in a while but thats on purpose. But for the life of me I can't figure out why I wud need taps on my shoes

Taps are little metal (or sometimes another material), half-moon shaped pieces that are nailed into the outer sole of your shoe. It keeps the shoe from wearing down in the outer corner, which gives men's shoes that unsightly side lean.

Most taps look like this:
