I agree with the second part of Jonathan's list and I agree with RayJ's list.
From a woman's perspective, I would add that every man should know how to treat a lady (again, CAD
):
-open her door to let her in and out of the car
-open doors at stores, restaurants, etc.
-extend your elbow for her to grab when walking, esp down stairs or off a curb
-offer your jacket if she's cold
-throw your jacket over a puddle so she can walk acr-- ok, ok, just kidding
-pull her chair at a restaurant
-help her with her coat: on/off
-carry her bags. ALWAYS.
Granted, many woman aren't into chivalry or only want it to a certain extent. Men should still know how to offer these things in case it means something to her. And if nothing else, treat your mama like a lady.
Other stuff:
-follow instructions for "some assembly required" stuff
-use a charcoal grill
-buy a car
-drive stick shift
-read a map (even if the days of GPS)
-iron your shirt, but NOT your black pants
-buy good gifts for your lady
-shave
-buy a suit
-throw a punch (hey, you never know)
-calculate square footage
-use Google
-play Spades. Or Poker. Or pool. Or something.
-be committed to everything you do
-WORK ETHIC (be on time, leave on time, do what you're supposed to do, follow rules, don't be a rebel, don't quit when they get on your nerves, etc.)
-be faithful (to your woman, to your family, your church, your boss, etc.)
-eat in public
-how to cut meat (I don't know why parents stopped teaching that)
-make up a bed
-use basic tools
