How far would you go?
« on: June 29, 2011, 04:23:03 PM »
If there was a group that had some of the dopest musicians and singers, and there was opportunity to either learn from some of the best or possibly go places, would you turn them down because you know that the behavior and/or lifestyles of some of the people involved are questionable or just flat out not right?

I ask this because I see so many groups either at church events or on youtube and it seems that a lot of folks dont have any discretion. That people dont say "whoa, y'all outta line here. i cant be part of this"

Is integrity something you'll push aside just for an opportunity to play?
For my God... let "Golden Axe" prevail.

Nope. I had an opportunity to hang with and learn from some guys who are absolute beasts on multiple instruments. However, they both openly smoked weed and although one played in church I got the sense he was more about the money than any kind of relationship with God.

Now I have an opportunity to learn from my pastor of worship and another keyboardist, both incredible musicians.

Absolutely not!!! I recently received two offers to play for two different churches but I wasn't willing to compromise my peace or integrity in order to do that. One of them had a female pastor who get's jealous of younger ladies. She also has a tendency to try to get fresh with other women's husband. The thing was, she was willing to pay VERY, VERY, VERY WELL but it wasn't worth it to me. The other pastor was willing to pay me well also but he had too many strings attached. At the end of the day, I would rather stay where I am for the sake of keeping the peace. BTJM

Mark 2:7 When Jesus heard [it], he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Matthew 9:12 But when Jesus heard [that], he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.

Luke 5:31 And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.

We have to let our light shine before men so they will see our good works and then glorify the Father that is in Heaven... How much light do you see outside at around 3:00 in the afternoon...? You see lots of light... but how much of it sticks out... IT'S EVERYWHERE... But take a flashlight outside at 11:00 p.m....  That light can be seen from FAR AWAY.  We as Christians should learn how to be apart and not be influenced.  Be an example.  Stand up for what you believe in and don't compromise.

I've heard this though... someone is doing the influencing.  Either they are going to influence you, or you are going to influence them.  You don't see them changing because you are in the midst or growing to at least "respect" your presence, then you better get your self out of there!!!!!!

But to each his own....You've got to decide for yourself.

I would definitely turn them down. Compromising my beliefs is not worth any amount of money or potential skill increases. I will be aiight.

Same here, right now work isn't doing well and chances of getting paid are slim but although several pastors and other people have had promises that seem to be a solution to the situation, Id rather do-Hebrews 10:38 and I know everything will be alright.
