Fair and Balanced Reporting....
« on: June 14, 2011, 09:46:34 AM »
....well, that's what they want to try and pawn it off as. :-\  Fox News is a disgrace and a disservice to true conservatism (which has long ago fallen by the wayside IMO).

+1,

sadly I think I would actually be a republican if it wasn't for the fact that the republican party is made up of people who like fox news ... so I'm an independent *shrug*

i know you were not asking me but i want to compare my answer to others (I would wait but I know I would change my answer if I read a better one)

Conservatism to me is maintaining the status quo.

I would partially disagree with that. I believe our society's heavy belief in personal responsibility as the root to solve many of our life problems (poverty, joblessness, etc) is rooted in conservatism.

Both parties have their fringe elements, but since Obama's election the far-right has usurped and cowed the mainstream GOP.

IMO, Fox News is the inmates taking over the asylum....

Conservative values have served us well and will continue to do so.  But my concern is that these core values are being overshadowed by bigoted clowns.  I consider myself to be a moderate as there are valid points of reason between conservatism and liberalism.
A few years ago, Dr. Jerry Bruckner wrote piece about the relative lack of orthodox theology among what are know as black churches (different issue worthy of its own thread).  One point that he made was that during the segregation era, many prospective black ministers were accepted by liberal schools, while those that were conservative would not admit black students.  So while the status-quo was maintained, an entire class of Americans were adversely affected in the process.  Now they want to point the finger and criticize black churches for not teaching sound theology  ?/? !  I guess in some ways, I tend to lean more liberal as conservatism can seem to be a bit self-serving (hey, the system works), but does very little to help people that need it.

I've heard that -

A Conservative is - a Liberal who gets mugged.
A Liberal is - a Conservative, who, laid off, losing his house, savings, car, etc. applies for Government assistance...

{of course, there are other political POV in-between these two extremes...but they don't get pitted against each other on TV}
