Beginner Piano player

Praise the Lord!  I have been playing the piano for about 5 years now...I really don't know that much....I can play by ear but other than that i don't know half of the chords........I was just wondering what I could do to improve my playing ability....and how would i go about improving how i chord???  I recently started playing for my church youth choir and I can't really play like I want to since no one has ever instructed me on anything before.....How can I improve? and What can I practice to better myself?

I think being familiar progressions with would probably help...and don't worry not knowin all the chords...that a infinite amount and probably more out there waitin to be unveiled...

Now a progression are just a group of chords...Some of the primary ones are 1_4_5 , 7_3_6 , 2_5_1 (mainly used for ending a song), 7_3_6_2_5_1, and lots more but I give you examples of each one for ya..

Wow  DD .. I know those progressions .. however,  the way that you 'laid' that post out is very nice!!!  ... I am going to 'apply' playing the 1-5 in the left hand!
