Some more chords and things
« on: December 24, 2010, 12:18:42 PM »
Wassup everyone. I was messing around on the keys and came up with this lil pattern that youve probably heard before. I dont know when and where you would use it at in a service so DONT ASK!!! lol sike nah but I wanna say that this is in the key of Fm? Someone help me with that. The future music educator in me wanted to share this with you all or else I would be covering my hands in service as Im playing this lol. Here it is.

C G C - E G C --- Cmajor

Bb F Bb - D F A C --- Bb Maj9

Bb F Bb - Db F Ab C --- Bb min9

Ab Eb Ab - C Eb G Bb C --- Ab Maj9

F A C - E G C --- F Maj9

Notice how you play the "C" in all of the chords. Thats pretty much how I came up with the pattern. I was looking for something new, but got frustrated so I decided to try to make my own stuff. All I did was see what chords I could form over the "C" note. Learn to trust your ear. Look for the sound you want, even if you dont know what chords youre playing, THEN go back and LEARN what it was that you just did.

This is just a 2 chord "worship type" movement and its really simple

Key of Fm (Im sure of this one lol)

C G C - Ab C Eb G --- Ab Maj7

F C F - Ab C F --- Fm

Anyway, I hope this helps someone

Yo ma1ne, I'm feeling that first pattern u got there man. One small suggestion (if u want), I would change the opening C major chord to a C minor chord in order to have a better flow for your chords. The C major works great as well, just something else to add to ur awesome pattern. Try it out and see how u like it:

C-G-C / Eb-G-C
Bb-F-Bb / D-F-A-C
Bb-F-Bb / Db-F-Ab-C
Ab-Eb-Ab / C-Eb-G-Bb-C
F-C-F / E-G-C

Keep em coming man!!! ;D

I will be stea....um borrowing this, lol.

Keep em coming man!!! ;D

::runs to the piano:: I honestly like that one. The minor kinda sets you up for the ending major. It is a smoother transition though. Good stuff.

I will be stea....um borrowing this, lol.

LOLOL!!! Ay man thats what its all about. Well all get the inspiration from one Source anyway. Just gimme a tenth of the first-fruits. Times is HARD

nice transitions try adding this one as an alternate ending

C - G - C / E D G C
Bb - F- Ab / C D F C
Ab - Eb - Ab / C Eb G C
Db - F / C Eb Ab C
C - E - G / D G C

I love music, any kind of music.

if im not mistaken ma1ne, that first example is in the key of F. Sound of Joy's variation (alternate ending) seems to be in the key of C. I've been finding out that you can venture outside of the key signature using either major 7 or major 9 chords for some seriously smooth transitions.

SOJ, i like stuffing a cycle of 4ths in there, so i could throw a EbMaj9 in between the Bb and Ab

C / G C D E  - Cadd9
Bb / A C D F - Bb Maj 9
Eb / G Bb D F - Eb Maj 9
Ab / G Bb C Eb - Ab Maj 9
Db / Ab C Eb F - Db Maj 9
C / G B D E - C Maj 9

or just walk down whole steps with maj 9 chords

C / G C D E  - Cadd9
Bb / A C D F - Bb Maj 9
Ab / G Bb C Eb - Ab Maj 9
Gb / Ab Bb Db F - Gb Maj 9
E / Ab B Eb Gb - E Maj 9
D / A Db E Gb - D Maj 9
C / G B D E - C Maj 9

Thats actually my middle...nah lemme stop, Lord forgive me lol

Ab - Eb - Ab / C Eb G C
Db - F / C Eb Ab C
C - E - G / D G C

Mr. Sam, you didnt have to step on my chords like that. I thought I was doing something lol. Sweet chords.

Sick chords. I think Im starting to realize that the inversion of the chord makes a world of difference. Imma start putting my 7th and 9th at the bottom instead of on top. I have a jazz book, and thats kinda how they voice their chords. Good info folks.

i come to find myself always playing only one or two inversions of a chord regardless of what key im in or what the previous/next chord is, so i probably do more moving around than i should, but thats the way im comfortable for now. i guess its time. I always played with my 7th and 9th on the bottom because thats how my teacher showed me how to easily construct those chords from the major triad, so i got used to playing some of them that way. To me they sound sweet regardless of the inversions.

Ma1ne, im still trying to wrap my head around that BbMaj9 to BbMin9. using both types of chords off the same root? it sounded so hot when i played it, so today i'll start exploring ways to use it and incorporate it into my playing.

I'm wit you there man. I don't think I would've been able to come up with those 2 series of chords back to back. That was indeed sick ma1ne.

I feel you, your inversions sounded sweeter than mine tho. As far as the Bb9, I really couldnt tell you lol. I was just messin around with sounds. I remember hearing Derrick Jackson say in a video that alot of stuff you hear are just half steps away. I kinda took that concept. Like Ill use dim7 chords to walk down to my next progression. Like if I was playing a 7-3-6-5, Id walk my bass from the 6-flat6-5 using all dim7 chords. Using a dim7 chord as a 5 has a crazy feel to it. It sounds good tho lol.

Nice series of chords people...Thanks for being so unselfish and sharing such nice chords!!!!...yall make me wanna share something and give back. Yall probably know this 7-3-6 progression already, but I'll share it anyway for the one person who may not know it. Am sure they will be happy for it just like I was happy when I learned it.

This will be in the key of Db:

Left hand/Right hand

7 - C F Ab / Eb G Bb D
3 - F C Eb / A Db Eb Ab
6 - Bb F Ab / Ab C Db F
