TOO MUCH!!!!!!!
« on: July 04, 2009, 03:25:17 PM »
Well I went to visit a new church last sunday
And while i was listing to the pianoist
i noticed something that was soooooooo annoying
He keep using the same movements over-and-over again
There were nice but after like the 2nd song...
It was just whack  :D
Could yall give advice to those who dont understand about when  and when not to use those "special" progressions?

Maybe he just learned that chord progression and wanted to make sure he didn't forget it...

Most folks don't pay that much attention to those things. It only catches the ear of those who participate in music ministry or are into music in general.

Despite our communication technology, no invention is as effective as the sound of the human voice.

Very true. But depending on the church, there can be a lot of people who are into music.  :D

But as for 'special progressions',I think musicians should play the first verse "straight", and then (gradually) do the special stuff after that. Now if he is using the same chords during every verse, or worse, in every song, then he just needs to work on his chord vocabulary and  how he implements them into different songs

Good advice. I hear musicians that will play the song so crazy that you don't recognize it is until you hear the singing...lol

i noticed this happend to ma as well

My solution (if i did not know a veriation of the progression) was ommit the melody note on my right hand or change it.

It sounded like a different progression

E.g 7/6-2-4
    3/#5-1-2-5
    6/6-3-5-6
OR
    7/6-2
    3/#5-1-2
    6/6-3-5

yup,the congregation and the choir should  instantly know what song you are playing, therefore the melody should be clear and on top.
