Washed in hyssop!!!!
« on: April 17, 2009, 10:33:11 AM »
Now I won't say I know everything not even close to it but i do have some common sense when it comes to asking things. I have heard Christian people asking to be washed with hyssip. I went to them after i heard this after service and said do you know what your asking for. there response was I know what i am asking for "cause at the end i will be white as snow". Now I know we all go through our trials and struggles of this world but to ask the Lord to washed with hyssip is like wow you really are asking for it.
Now side note every time I see this person they are going through something, they look like they are getting beat down, never have money, car breaking down all the time, clothes dont fit them, family problems. So last week when I seen him sad and down I was going to ask him are you done asking to be washed in hyssip or are you going to keep asking for it but we got out of service so late I needed to get home so I could go to work in the morning.

Question should i go back to him about that or let him keep going? what would you do?

It comes from Psalms 51:7I don't have the heart to tell Joshua it's 'hyssop' :)

Hyssop is a common herb which grew in Bible times and still grows extensively today in many varieties all over the world. It's possible you have seen it in a garden near you. Common varieties grow to about two feet tall and spread about a foot. It has beautiful purple blue flowers and a strong mint smell. If you have ever seen or grown catmint, hyssop looks somewhat similar. (as cited from hannah's cupboard.com)

what does mean to be purged in hyssop? I understand use of hyssop and read the passage many times before. I'm not understanding what is wrong with him saying it.

ok, if you read how it is used the clean things just imagine God using it to cleanse you. it is like using a brillo pad on a pan, now let God use a brillo pad on you. it is like asking God to crusify me or asking God to punish you instead of mercy.... somethings you just dont or should not ask for. some will argue this point but when Christ was walking on this earth he was not asking his father for more but to pass this cup from me, but let thy will be done. Just imagine Chrsit going come on devil is this all you got and start singing "at the cross" while he was up there. Even start laughing at them when he was being beaten.

IDK, when David said it I felt like he was saying that he so wanted to please God that he was telling him whatever it takes so that I can be clean.  Indeed, sometimes it hurts.

It's not much unlike the "debate" (for lack of a better word) over whether we should pray that the Lord humbles us.  The old saints used to teach against that, but I hear new preachers saying it all the time.  The old saints would say that asking the Lord to humble you is asking for trouble because humbling can be painful, embarrassing, devastating, etc.

Or the "teach me how to wait" prayer... they would say that instead of asking God to teach us to wait, we should ask Him to move quickly so we don't have to wait... LOL... and that when you ask God that, you're inviting Him to prolong your blessings.

All that stuff, to me, is just hyper-religion.
