I like that Stanton Snare. You think it is viable in a Church setting with the Single Flange Hoop?

I love this exact set up. I've been using this the past couple of shows. I want to buy a nice crash/ride so I can rock this set up more often.

I wasn't at NAMM but I know the owner/ builder of this drum. His name is George Lawrence. He is the current drummer for the old country rock band Poco. He is a very knowledgable, an incredible drummer, and an all-around nice guy. I've heard this drum and I was surprised by the sound and the weight. It is pretty darn heavy and so is the sound. The sound is fat with a very controlled overtone. It's not too muffled , but far from ringy. It sounds like what I hear on alot of recordings. It would fit in most musicsl situations (CCM, blues,country, jazz, some rock, some gospel). If you want more info on that or Famous Drums (which is owned by George Lawrence as well), call (330)940-DRUM (3786). That's the phone number to his shop. Heck, if any of you are ever going to be in Norhteast Ohio(Cleveland, Akron, Canton), hit me up and I'll be gald to take you by the shop to experience the products firsthand! He has some incredibly innovative products!

min_amw, what was his rationale for disrupting the air column?  Was it just for aesthetics?

Naw, I didn't get to test that snare. I missed that one.

 The KickPort with Pearl bass drum was like a 808  :o

I have no idea what made him design it like that. He's seen alot of good and bad ideas in his years of playing. The special thing about that drum is this... because the "muffling takes place from the inside of the drum and is actually apart of the drum, it still maintains all of the body and fullness minus some of the overtone. He can explain it a whole lot better. Feel free to email him. (george@georgesdrumshop.com) He has some unique items including a drum made from a 2"x4"
