I just traded my Motif 8 for the fantom X8 and must admit I'm loving this board. Since I like to do song production I believe this is the one for me.

True but the motif was giving me a headache trying to figure out how to sequence. This is much easier and can mix down your tracks.

I was about to trade it for the MO8 and guy inform me that minds was the better board and suggest maybe an ES8 or the fantom which he had on brand new.

See, that's what I'm always on about: having something that 1 can actually use the features of rather than some white elephant..

I'd rather keep my Casio than have a motif at church; I'd rather have a mo8 & know that I can control it with reasonable ease than something that requires me to have a Motif technician each time I want to do something creative with the board.

I'm so glad that you can already see the benefits of having a fantom as opposed to the motif..
I still struggle with the rolands at church & perform much better on my casio then on them..

Well I have an alesis fusion 6 HD its an ok board but I am thinking about getting MO7 or the S08 I am not sure yet.

Yeah the Motif is not the easiest board to get. The Fantom is more user-friendly than the Motif, especially when it comes to music production and not just playing voices. The reason i like the Motif over the Fantom (we have both in church) is the sliders when it comes to performance mode. You can get very creative with the layering and the sliders make sure that you can adjust each voice you use to your own desired volume level. So you could have a piano with a little soft guitar in the back ground. I am trying to figure out how to create arpeggios. When i do that, watch out!!

Since you like to layer try it on the fantom, you have the whole board to layer and spilt. The guy was showing me everything the board was capable of doing and the manual is easy to use.

There is a guitar layered with strings call with love, you'll love it.

Thanks, this board is soooooo simple to use, I'm sequencing already.LOL With the Motif never even got close. I still love the Motif, but for music production this is the board.

I know how to layer and split on the Fantom. The issue i have with the board is that you cannot control each voice you layer in real time like you can on teh Motif. If you can, please show me how to do it.

I am a Yamaha guy. All my boards have been Yamahas.

In my opinion the Fantom is very much easier to decipher or to get around on than the Yamaha XS. It just doesn't do as much. But the fact of the business is that the Yamaha XS is double overkill for most semi-pro and amateur performing musicians(certainly for me).

I was able to get a Fantom X6 for $1200.00 which is not chicken feed but pretty good. An astute buyer will do better I am sure, so they are somewhat within reach for we who are money challenged. When I buy one, I sell one, making it a little easier for me. Once you bite the bullet and get into a upper tier board, you can change or upgrade much easier.

I now have both and can compare. The Yamaha is clearly way more comprehensive(to me) and the Fantom is clearly easier to use. Both are very good and either would satisfy most church musicians. (And you can up-grade the Fantom with SRX boards)

I am so glad that you are enjoying your board. Make some great music.

I can honestly say I was never able to figure out all the Motif 8 was capable of, but this one has made a difference. I still have a KorgX3, which I was able to get around on with no problem, which is why I like this one just as much.

Just a word for anyone thinking of buying the new Korg, the sells guy said that it doesn't come with a manual. This would make it twice as hard to operate than the Motif.

Why on earth would Korg not include a manual? What is wrong with these people?

I agree with Berbie though, the Motif is way too much for an amateur or even a semi-pro. I don't want a Motif XS or ES at this point. The MO6 is my target for now.

Ive done it on mine. Next time Im on it, I have to go through it to rememebr how I did it.

Congrats. I think im going to get a fantom x rather than the mo 8 also. I think it is a better buy for your money plus its easily accessible and more user friendly. What was i thinking. duh!

Ok try this. Set up four sounds for layer under the LAyER feature. Make sure they are all in line ie slot 1, 2, 3, 4. Once you have that, hit the mixer button and make sure your volume is highlighted. All four should be lit so you can control them with the wheel over there. Now you wont do that, we want to layer everything on the fly, so use the four knobs to the left of the screen to mix. Should work. If it doesnt, I'll try resetting my board, and learning the process from scratch. Save the layer setup. Done

This is really cool, thanks man.

2 questions

1) If the check box beside each voice is checked, does that mean the voice is activated? How do i shut off that voice? I tried unchecking the check box but the voice still sounds.

2) So there is no way to control each individual voice volume in real time like on the Motif? That sucks.
