Just my 2 cents. Gerald is nearly 40 years old. I've been listening to him since 1986 when I was sixteen so that makes me 38. I hear all of the comments and people are entitled to make their comments. At this point in his career, is some of his playing, chops, and fills predictable, yes. Is it not as exciting as some of today's top cats, perhaps, yes again. That still does not negate what this man means to gospel and R&B music. The names Gerald Heyward, Jeff Davis, Dana Davis, Kevin Brunson, Michael Williams, and Joel Smith will still be in conversations 20 years from now for their impact on gospel music. You can't expect him to sound like today's musicians. He was brought up, groomed, and trained in a different era. It's not to say that he can't adapt and do a few new things, but he's from a different era. I dare say, Gerald can still outplay the majority of folks in this forum. Whether you're from the east coast, west coast, north or south, Gerald has influenced gospel and R&B music. Even if you claim, as some have, to never have even heard of him, he has influenced your playing. If he's so boring and outplayed, put your video on here and let's see you play.
