These chords can be used to build various types of songs and progressions, for example if I want to play a 2-5-1 progression...I can just look under the 2 chord which is Eb...then the 5 which is Ab and the 1 which is Db. The names such as dominant, supertonic, etc doesnt matter as much as the number of the tone. So just focus on the numbers and not just whether its tonic, supertonic, or what have you.
In the song "Thank you Lord" in the key of Db...just use the following numbers and see if it works for you
1 Thank
7 you
3 (filler)
6 Lord
2 Thank
3 you
b5 (filler)
5 Lord
repeat top part
2 I
3 just
4 want
b5 to
5 thank you
1 Lord
