I was hoping that I got it right! I'm just starting to get the hang of it, after listening to it for 4 years! One of our Kenyan sisters says "You sound like these Nigerian people!" She's happy because I'm learning Swahili though.

Eish, that description...it left me hanging: I was thinking you'd delve deeper in2 describing the dude (eg., with a crooked nose, chubby hands..blah blah ::) ?/?)..lol

So....in other words, you're telling me you guys DON'T sing stuff like...

"I will praise him every day" and "Emela....Chineke Emela"

....ALL....THE....TIME?....reggae/African-style?

Don't get me wrong, I like experiencing new things, but after 4 years of this stuff, I'm ready for something new! I can't get these dude to do too much out of that, my bass player says it's because they're from "the village". Even when they DO some Isreal or more modern songs, they still have a slightly different rhythm.

OK now i am convinced you DO know a lot about Nigerians. LOLOL That Emela song is like a standard in Nigerian churches. People go WILD when they start up that song. Lets not even start on what "everybody Praise The Lord" does to teh congregation. Peoples be leaping on chairs and whatnot. Sometimes i swear its the rythym and not the praise that gets them going.

Actually my church does not sing those songs. Even though we are primarily Nigerian, our pastor does not want us caught up in one mentality. Even if we wanted to play African stuff, we couldn't. I dont know how to do that stuff on the keys, neither does my bass player (he's from Trinidad).

Here's a trend I've observed..

Drums: Bro. Forgot-His-Name and Bro. Who-ya-ma-call him...sorry they names just slipped like that.

Drums- the other keys player and some fat kid.

Drums: Jeff and some other dude

Where there is more than 1 drummer, U guys don't take cognisance/ go thru da trouble of learning the "other" drummer's names..

Could there be some logical explanation behind that (eg..drummers are not that essential in making a service  "top-notch" as a keyboardist/ organist ?/?; There's a great harvest of them anyway to stress so much about noting them..etc)

just an observation...

Dude! My pastor is American, and he wants us to do African songs! I tried doing some other stuff before and it didn't go too well. The people were just looking at us. But as soon as we sang "Emela" or "All the way to calvary He bled for me" or ..... don't laugh..... "By the rivers of Babylon" ...they go crazy! Really!
