For the record, though, I don't think Jesus was like, homeless-poor, or like eating-out-of-the-trash-poor, or like sleeping-on-a-park-bench-poor, or like putting-cardboard-in-the-soles-of-his-hand-me-down-shoes-poor....

:-\

I agree with that.  That is what i thought yall was referring to when talking about poor (homeless, eating-out-of-the-trash, etc.).

Don't back peddle T... You said that Jesus possibly financed his ministry from the gifts he recieved as a babe. You also used the fact that the disciples left their businesses to follow Jesus. Jesus once declared that birds and foxes had homes but the son of man had no where to lay his head. Trust me if Jesus was rich he would've found a presidential suite to stay in like most of our constituents of today.. Jesus financed his ministry by faith. He was empowered by the holyghost to use his gift to minister(serve) to the people. People openly blessed Jesus with meals and other life sustaining blessings. When Jesus sent the disciples out two by two, he instructed them not to take anything for their journey but the basic neccessities. He also instructed that they be sustained by the people who freely opened their homes.

He told them to pronounce a blessing on their homes after they left. He also instructed them not to stay in everybody's house... Now think about the traveling side shows that ministry has become now. How does that compare to the ministry of Jesus with the 12 he commissioned and the 70 that he sent shortly thereafter. Does that mirror most of the ministries of the 21st century? LaRue hinted on the many doctrines and denominations that have been started on assumptions and not spirit led instruction. She is definetly on point. It is clear why the prosperity gospel has recieved most of the backlash that it has recieved. It was a flat out lie!!! Prosperity isn't exclusive to christians. There are many levels of prosperity that are overlooked and defined only by material things. Rev Wright is one of the FEW men of GOD who preaches in total autonomy of the status quo..... That's a real prophet in my book....

I never said Mary and Joseph was wealthy, I just mentioned those gifts to say that Jesus was not poor.

Do u ever wonder why those disciples left their businesses to follow Jesus?  They had to know that Jesus could take care of them.  Think about it, would u leave a good business to follow a poor man?  As for where the gifts were stored/kept, it doesn't say in the Bible because that's not really important.

So, u saying that Jesus, the son of a God was poor?  Why do u think the bible even mentioned the gifts that he recieved when he was born?  God had those gifts in place so that Jesus would be set to accomplish His will when the time was right.  Think about it!!!  ;)
Just a question, if he was rich why did he have to get fish & loaves from someone & why did they get tax money from fishing?

Can you really proclaim him as a real prophet unless you know the teachings of the said prophet, not just some of the words that you may agree with?

He did say, "in his book"; it's not like he's trying to say that we have to believe in or read, 'his book'.  :)

Maybe rich falls into a different context for me............my definition would be "blessed with much". What would be yours.

God Bless!

When you say "much" are you referring to "much" money and material possessions or "much" spiritual blessings?

I just don't think it's necessary for us to be so deep about all this.

I mean much of both........(maybe not money tho).

You're right we shouldn't be so deep about this at all. Seems like we all got an understandin' about the subject at hand so this appears to be idle ground.

Pastor JD,

The most suprising thing to me is that we reduce the prophetic to being able to see future events. The prophetic ministry is much more than that. The prophetic ministry is also a platform for speaking out against injustice. That's even in the face of adversities not limited to government, religious affiliations and cultural beliefs. There are passages in scripture that began with son of man prophesy against. So that what makes the man a prophet in regards to the tradition of boldly speaking for the cause of God. So my book is validated.....

This is kinda new to me, FS... can you back that up?

I'll be the first to admit that I've always defined prophecy as a statement that tells (or warns) of future events.  I realize that some Biblical prophets may have spoken out against injustice, but isn't their title characterized first and foremost by their gift to tell of future events?

Using that definition helps FS's case. The thing for me is the definition can be easily, too easily, applied to a LOT of people depending on THEIR cause.

Yeah, I get that... but, who are we to question Merriam-Webster?  Aren't they, like, the authority in etymology and definitions?  :-\  I mean, if they say that that's what the word means (or that that's one of the definitions of the word), isn't it just so?

I'll admit it's a bit weird for me to think of an average joe as a "prophet" just because he's a spokesperson for a cause... I mean, that makes zillions of people prophets.  Heck, that makes ME a prophet! LOL!  :D :D :D  Sen. John Edwards is a prophet.  P. Diddy is a prophet.  Bono is a prophet.  This just gets kinda weird...

I dunno.  Maybe that was just Webster's way of secularizing the word for public use?  :-\

Either way, it's kinda interesting to me.
