Why is it funny that Vinnie is a "world musician" and a Chtistian?

Ok i think he's sugarcoating, but im going to be str8 up and say it.  I dont see how you can play with all these secular musicians but still, out of your mouth, say youre saved.  Whats the difference between a saved, secular musician and just a secular musician? Ive heard of musicians giving the "ill witness backstage" excuse....now......what in the world makes you think he or she would want to listen to what you got to say when you are still in the "world" yourself? I doubt ppl would receive that. I think somebody who's saved and gospel strict like Calvin Rodgers would have a wayyy higher successful rate than.......*cough* and other compromisers.   Ppl find any excuse these days to listen, play to and get "ideas" from secular music, everything that glitter aint gold.

Dude, I think it all depends what message you're helping go through when you play a secular gig. It ain't the same if you play for Snoop as in playing for Chick Corea (just being general)...know what I mean?....anyways...that's another topic and has been discussed on here too many times....and most of those threads have been locked.... :-\ :-\ :-\ :-*

In no means am I attacking you but just giving rhetoric to your post. I've known people that have been in the church and "saved" all their of lives that have never expressed with such passion and sincerity what vinnie expressed. What's the difference between a saved secular musician and a secular musician? One of them is saved. It's the same difference between a saved Foot Locker employee and a Foot Locker employee. One of them is saved. I sell instruments for a living. I can guarantee you that 99% of my customers are going to purchase these instruments to play in a secular band. Am I not saved because I sold them the instrument? There are drum teachers on this board who have taught kids/adults to play drums and I'm sure they'll tell you that their student has no desire to use what they're learning to praise God. Is the teacher's Christianity questioned for teaching them to play? I understand what you're saying about witnessing to artist in secular environments, but we must realize that witnessing to people does more that just bring people to Christ. The bible expresses to us that everyone has the opportunity to accept Christ before judgement. Even if your witness doesn't bring some secular artist or whomever to Christ, you've taken away the excuse that "no one ever told me about You" that so many will try and use on the day of Judgement. Now, that artist/band member may not have ever heard of Christ until a saved drummer playing their gig told them. So, how effective was the drummer's witness? It may not have brought that person to Christ but it sure demolished a prospective excuse for not coming to Him.
My goal as a musician is to be better than myself.

Doc, most cats who play in church are playing with cats who do or have played outside the church and still play on Sunday morning, whether you know it or not. At least Vinnie is bold enough to STAND OUT and speak about Christ. The world basically put Vinnie up on a pedestal as on of the world's greatest drummers (and rightfully so). He, in turn, is using that platform to share Christ in an audience that 95% of "church folk" won't attempt to reach. It's hard to get "saved" musicians to say where they are with Christ. And don't forget that even Calvin played on stage with R. Kelly. Be careful not to be judgemental concerning what someone is doing in the name of Christ. Whether it's Calvin, Vinnie, or anyone else. They are Christian drummers in a secular environment, just like most of us.

noticed i used the term World Musician, Vinnie is in a place that i think is great for a Christian to be out in the world but not being worldly..........where as so many others hide behind Religion they actually forget about Christianity...........

I understand and agree on some parts.  Also how is working in Foot Locker and music ministry the same? And somebody explain to me why is that some musicians think they have to go and play in a secular band to be a witness?  I just wanna know, and the way i look at the situation is you have to choose, to me its being lukewarm but saying, "but lord ill witness" as an excuse but can you witness to all of the listeners of the music that dont pertain to anything about God and which you are possibly help driving those away from the church than bringing them toward it, to me some musicians fall for anything that sounds good. Lol i was raised in a 0% compromise church so I cant help it, but my ears are open and ill listen to what everyone has to say.  PM me if you want.

You cannot assume that because he's of the "worldly" music scene & trying to proclaim Christ that he's a hypocrite & his love for Christ is a sham & he should be ashamed of himself etc... You don't have the right to judge him like that.

Like Jesus said "Let him without sin, cast the first stone..."

As everyone else is pointing out... What should be celebrated is the fact that he's willing to go to the Devil's territory & make his beliefs known.

When i reread the first post of my topic yeah it does sound kinda judgemental but i didnt really mean to blast whoever youre talking about.

Im glad he's acknowledging Christ and doing so genuinely

but I gotta agree with L.V. about music being ministry and requires dedication unto God alone

Ok let me ask you a question! How is going to Church and being around other Christians, playing in the Church band and for other Christian singers/musicians, always being around Christians being a witness!?  Did Jesus just hang around his crew of 12 or did he get out in the world and show signs and wonders and talk about what he stood for!? Didn't he spend time with those who the world saw as the scum and sinners!? Drumming is a job just like working at Foot Locker or being a doctor!!! No matter what secular job you do (unless you witness) you are NOT bringing people closer to God and depending on your holier than thou attitude your pushing people further away from the Church more then the music!!!!! Get that one straight!!!!!! I don't think you know BUT some of the worlds A list musicians are Christians (and REAL about their Christianity!)

God puts his soldiers on the front lines, back lines, medics, captains and so on! Ive studied and followed Vinnie for around 20 years and Im telling you to see him up there witnessing is a miracle from God!!!! You should have heard the stories!!!! The rumor was that it got so bad that Yamaha pulled his drum endorsement because they didn't want to be associated with his lifestyle....But, How do you think he became saved, probably another A list musician witnessing to him!!! Yes you may come from a 0% compromise church but I usually find that you guys forget the love and grace of God and are very ignorant to the way God interacts with the world on a whole!!!!!! :-\

Vinnie is different from other cats on the secular scene. I don't see him playing for artist with messages of sex, drugs and what not(you guys know what i'm talking about) Most church drummers are out there playing for secular hip-hop and r&b artist and their messages are usually the opposite of God's message. What are they doing helping them spread the message of the world? Why are they so worried to witness to one specific person instead of the whole crowd(masses)? I'm so sick of musicians using the excuse to witness to the artist as the reason why they play for secular artist. It's bull. You are either helping uplift the kingdom of God or the other way. Drumming is not just another regular job since we are christian. It has strings attached whenever you play for a secular artist. When you play that gig you're actually going to help spreaad their message. And what is the message in their songs? Cats seem so worried about secular arist being saved when they have most likely heard about God and have probaly have chosen to keep living their life the way they are living....it just dosen't make sense to me.....and some of you guys are using Vinnie as an example of how God uses musicians that play for secular arist....ya'll ain't Vinnie.....God had something planned for him and now he can witness.....he was not born in the church and a lot of musicians have been and know the truth....we can't do what Vinnie is doing because that is him.....he was drumming beofre he was saved and now he has this big platform to tell people about Jesus.....we don't have that platform....our platform is the world....I don't know about you guys but God has been talking to me strongly lately.....not about this though...just general....telling me to get my things straight...I tried to ignore it but last night our youth pastor taught a lesson that was crazy......he was saying the same things to our youth....God moved in a powerful way last night with our youth....and when I read this thread I was just thinking...if I played a secular gig...how can I spread another message other than Jesus...just dosen't make sense.....and you guys can say...How about our regular jobs?..."are we witnessing?"...or...."so you're saying I can't sell to secular people".....it's different with music guys...it's so powerful.......and like BBD was saying...many people think they are saved just by being around christian everything...and that's sooo true....we are stuck getting (begging) our own people to serve God when they are already in church nand know the truth....that's just ridiculous.....and we are only fooling ourselves.......it's time to go out of the church walls and bring people to Jesus....I mean that's what we are supposed to do.....I admit it too...I haven't been doing my job (witnessing as muich as I should) and just living a life that's righteous unto God...for me it's time....
