Before the Tonight Show...
« on: January 15, 2008, 07:47:48 PM »
...Marvin Smitty Smith was and still is a phenominal BeBop Player.  What I enjoy about this clip is ......well.....everything.  I love how he effortlessly moves around his kit.  I don't own this DVD yet but after this clip, I will.

...check out his foot work as well.

Psalms 144.1 - "Praise be to the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle."

Cats are sleep on Smitty.  I wish he got a chance to open up more on the Tonight Show.  He's a Berklee grad.  He was there the same time that Branford and Wynton were in.

You gotta love the Tony Williams-esque set up.  2 rack toms, 3 floor toms.  And that box?

Nice find.

...well, he does play a lot with their band leader when they're not on set.  Smitty reminds me of this cat on drums... ;D

Great clip. Good to see Smitty stretch out a bit.

...that was more than "a bit".  This dude was rippin' the kit and later on in the drum battle trio setting, a "younger" Steve Smith couldn't hang. LOL

yeah. I caught that! I was shocked. Looked like Steve didn't quite know what to do.
