What's the difference between a C9 and C2

What's the difference between a C9 and C2?

Why would I want to say C2 here instead of C9 there...

C2  typically doesn't imply a dominant 7th.  the 2 is just added for color.

C7 C9 C11 and C13 typically imply a dominant 7 ( so you would add Bb into the chord structure)

A C2 contains only the root, 2nd, and 5th scale degrees, no 3rd.

C-D-G

I'm going to assume you're talking about the Cadd9 chord, as opposed to the C9 (C dominant 9th chord).  The Cadd9 chord had the root, 3rd, 5th, and 9th scale degrees.  But, you can play the 9th as a 2.

C-E-G-D or  C-D-E-G

Nah, it just means that the 3rd of the chord isn't there, as T stated earlier.
