Dude I just played on a DW 14" x 6" maple....and wow...I loved it....do you know how a solid shell would sound and what's the difference between the regular DW maple and a solid maple shell?? Thanks. GB.
Easy - the difference between the 'regular' DW Maple and a solid maple shell (whether it's Noble and Cooley, Pearl, DW, Dunnett, et al) is the construction. With the solid shell, it's just one solid piece of wood steam bent and often reinforcement rings are added to it. With the 'regular' DW Maple, it's a Maple shell, but it's constructed in plies.
As for the tone, it is said to be more resonant than its ply counterpart. As for me, I don't
have to have a solid shell, because I feel that you can get an awesome tone out of each type.
