i found a few songs that work well in this section

No i didnt mean the invitation to discipleship
I think you misunderstood our so called alter call takes place after the first hymn of the morning immediately after the first choir selection it is just a prayer where the congregants are called to the alter to pray
this takes place way before a sermon is preached

i think you thought i meant the invitation to discipleship.

I am trying to use this selection momment as a worship song opportunity.
or a praise song opportunity.

Wow. I never heard of that. We have altar prayer before the service starts but I generally have the media ministry play some music on a CD.

no it isnt necesarrily just for sick people it is for anyone who wants to come up to the alter and pray there is a person maybe a deacon or a minister who will pray and the people at the alter hold hands and the choir sings a couple of versus of a song before the prayer ( usually as people are coming up )
i may do annointing fall on me or i love you i love you lord today
or praise him praise him

i thought it was different also because it is written in on the bulletien and there is a second prayer right before the second hymn

i play after that also but it is usually very short they sing maybe two choruses of whatever song i am playing usually thank you lord or he is lord or amazing grace

We have this at my church as well.  it is usually led by one of the associate ministers.  Its simply called "Alter call".  After that there are 2 more songs.   Then the preacher brings a message.  Then after the message we have the invitation to discipleship.

We are doing Come Holy Spirit Medley for alter call next week.

For invitation we will be dong Least I can Do  by Smokie Norful.

I might put a video up on either one this weekend in the piano forum.

At my church, we do praise and worship (2 or 3 songs) and a selection for offering. That's it. For altar call (after the sermon) I just play instrumental music but there's no singing. My pastor just keeps trucking from the sermon until he does the benediction...

we do devotion which is usually 4 songs
then the choir sings praise God from whom all blessings flow
then they sing Gloria patria
then the first hymn
selection 1
alter call (selection 2)
selection  3

then fellowship And we sing yes jesus loves me

then selection 4

then announcements

maybe there is a 5th selection

if not straight to offering
some choirs will sing as I play it all depends on which choir
and how hard they work

prayer and we sing a short song
then
second hymn

sermon

invitation to discipleship

and then the closing song  come holy spirit or God be with you
before the three fold amen

and that is it

Processional   ( song 1)

Praise and Worship ( song 2)

Congregational Hymn (song3)

Church theme song ( song 4 but its the same  song all the time. We do while we greet our visitors)

Offering    (song5   This is a choir selection)

Alter Call  ( song 6 again a choir selection,  then a vamp during which the minister prays)

Selection ( song 7)

Song of Preparation  ( song 8 - This is right before the preacher preaches)

Invitation to Discipliship (song 9)

Benediction ( usually 3 fold A-Men,  but if the pastor is feeling it, he might ask for another song)



Personally I think its too much,  but that is what our schedule look like.

If there is a baptism  we add "Take me to the Water" to the above list.

If there is communion, we add "The Blood will never lose it Power"


We usually keep the congregational song the same for a month,  same thing for offering.

My bad,  the processional stays the same for the month as well.

Everything else changes every sunday.  We try and go 3 months before we repeat stuff.

Thats why a bruh need sheet music or lead sheet to play.  I can't remember all that stuff in my head

We basically go through about 20 songs a month.
