What we may all benefit from is realizing the difference in enjoying a drummer and actually being influenced by a drummer. There are many more drummers that I enjoy listening to, but I don't walk away with anything more when I finish listening to them. It's just enjoyment. I could have named names all day (as is probably the case with all of us), but honestly, the topic was supposed to be HOW these guys influenced us. If you can just name names, are you influenced and bettered by their playing, or is it just someone you like listening to?

Exactly.  On my list, I broke down what each drummer did to influence my playing.  That is the main reason I did that.  Those particular ones stood out more versus the more common names listed.  I do enjoy many of the other drummers listed such as Gerald Heyward, Chris Dave, Aaron Spears, Sput, Doobie, Spanky, etc.  But I did not list them on the premise that they were possibly influenced in some way by some of the same drummers I listed.

Hopefully many of you are listing them and really paying attention to what they do versus just learning the licks so you can turn it out when you play.  Also at the same time, not emulating them verbatim, but letting them inspire you to be better and create your own niche as each of them have in their own unique way.  Let your influence be about pure musicianship instead of showmanship.
When you've done your very best, do even better.

My biggest influence I would have to say is Third.  We have been hanging over the last few months and he has just help me build up my confidence and giving me pointers.  He causes me to want to work harder to really craft my gift, anything is achievable if you work at it not just in music but in life.  Oh yeah and he showed me some really nice feels too.
Say hello to my little friend!!!!
