Aww! Come on. You said you put God first and did your best. That's all anybody could ask for. I would say that's holdin' it down. I tried to keep my lips sealed like Cherri did on the injury thing...lol

GOD will use what he chooses to get his Glory. remember you are playing for him. Just play like you do all the time...don't try to bite off more than you can chew just Golify him in your playing and he will lift your head....I do pray that you do well...but not for man I pray that GOD gets his glory....from your playing then the people will be blessed

I feel ya on the nervous issue. I had a gig this past week at one of the mega church's in Houston and when I first got in there I was nervous and a little intimidated cuz their drummer was lookin at me the whole time he was playin. My advice is to say a prayer before you start playin and just let the lord to move inside of you and to take the nervousness out and see how he works through you

Hey fellow drummers...

I am preparing to play for a revival at a church that has an 8000 member congregation. My church was asked to bring our choir and praise team.... And I am NERVOUS. I have never played for a group that large before, and I have never played for a pastor of the magnitude of this one.  :o

I would like to know from these big timers here, how did you handle your first 'big-time' gig or event? What pointers could you give me? I am always nervous and scared and stuff, but The Lord pulls me through, cause I pray constantly...  :D

This church heard a lot about my pastor, and how wonderful of a preacher he was, and would you believe in the same sentance, they said 'And who is this young lady drummer I keep hearing about?' Come on yall, help a sistah out, I want to represent and leave my mark, I dont just wanna be a pretty face on the kit, I feel that this is a wonderful opportunity.... Although I am excited, I am going nuts thinking about all the songs i have to learn in less than a month!!! Pray for me ya'll....

Thanks in advance  :-*

We're all human so nervousness will come with some things.  That's a sign of humility to me.  I have played for the National Baptist Congress Convention twice.  I was nervous, but I knew I had a job to do.  So I had to get over that real quick.  If you are confident in your craft, then just use that for motivation.  Also, this is not about all of those people, this is about praising GOD.  Just the simple fact that you were inquired about by the Pastor of that church let's you know that you are doing your thing.  I've been blessed to share the stage with people like Daryl Coley, Norman Connors, George Clinton, The Late Gerald Levert and the group Levert, Rance Allen, Beverly Crawford, etc.  I met India.Arie's drummer back in August of this year.  He knew of my work and he was actually "geeked" to meet me.  You talk about floored....  That let's me know that someone truly appreciates my talent and it helps my confidence.

Anyway, you have a great opportunity here, and it can be a multiple blessing for you.  I'm sure you will do well.  Just focus on what you have to do.  Don't worry about how many people are gonna be there.  Do your thing.  You're gonna bless and motivate somebody there with your gift as well.  Good luck and "Break a stick."

When you've done your very best, do even better.

::) oh, and no flowers........ I am allergic.

This was last week BTW. Today, my church and I will be at Norfolk State. Yes I will be playing with the soft cast on.... I am only playing P&W because there are only two songs, Greatful and Days of Elijah. Both of which I proved that I could play WITH THE SOFT CAST ON MY ARM... Everything else like 'Lift Him Up' and the other fast stuff, I couldnt hang with last night because it hurt..... But the two songs I am playing have heavy cymbal action.... and thats what I plan on doing.

It's a skill that not may people have.  To be able to play and sing at the same time.

And if they DO play and sing at the same time, their playing suffers.

The best at it in the Gospel arena?  Smokie Norful, followed CLOSELY by Twinkie Clark.  Is it slow or uptempo?

Christ.  I must've been more medicated than usual that day.  Twinkie is THE best at singing and playing, followed by Smokie Norful.
