Small church with the BIG Problem
« on: August 22, 2006, 09:44:46 AM »
Hello everyone, I am new to this site and I am loving it!!! OK...this is my problem. We have a small church that is just starting to grow. My husband and I are the only ones that do the singing. I am a good singer, he is ok...But since he has the heart to wanna sing he doesn't sound to bad, but you can tell he can not carry a note...lol. This is the problem, I need some songs that everyone will know so everyone can sing! Like those old time songs we used to sing in the church with no music or drums. I can't think of many so maybe yall can help me. Thanks  ;D

I started a song list like that on LGM. A few people added to it. Do a search on my name.......... I cant find it myself. I will see if I can find my list later. Its pretty long.
Vision without action is just day dreaming. I miss practicing.

Welcome, goodground29115!  What comes to my mind right now are just your standard hand clapping congregational songs, some that came immediately to mind:

This is the day

I was glad when they said unto me

Jesus I'll never forget

Those are just a few, I'll post more if I think of them.

What A Might God We Serve
In the Name of Jesus We have the Victory
Hallelujah Anyhow (Never ever let your problems get u down)
I Get Joy When I Think About (What He's done for me)
I Don't Know What U Come to do (But I came to Praize the Lord)...
I Love to Praize Him (I love to Praise His name) Choir song too...
Every Day with Jeus...Sweeter than the Day Before..(may be a hymnal)

Also...check out Hymnals...
Nothing But the Blood of Jesus....
I'll Fly Away
At The Cross

My favorites include:
Soon and very soon, we are going to see the King- Andre Crouch
Lord, help me to hold out- the first notes of this on piano make people holler down here in GA
Swing Low, Sweet Chariot- we start this out with a call and response b4 it gets going.

Come to think of it, one of the old traditional methods was for the song leader to speak a line, then lead the congregation in singing that line. This goes back to the times when a lot of people couldn't read, and the small church didn't have hymnals, but its great for teaching your congregation, and it can be powerful. Oral tradition- its good.

God bless your efforts.

I'm running for my life (repeat 3x) If anybody asks you what's the matter with me?  Just tell 'em I'm saved, sanctified, Holy Ghost filled, fire baptized. I got Jesus on my side and I'm running for my life.

There is a fountatin
There is a name I love to hear
Precious Lord take my hand
It is well with my soul
old faithful "Amazing grace"
I'm just a poor wayfaring stranger
The Doxology "Praise God from whom all blessing flow" (the slow version to end service)
Standing on the Promises
The Blood shall never Lose its power
In the Garden

Hope I did not repeat anything anybody else said.
"Stay Fly, Stay Fresh, God Bless"
Dameron Growe
