Kurzweil...
« on: June 22, 2006, 09:06:55 AM »
I don't like these boards...lol..they sound wonderful but thank God I know how to play from every key...I went to this church to play for this pastor and thats when it hit me in the neck...they had one of those Kurzweil that probably did  have a tranpose button..a K2600...88 key...I loved the feel...but don't ask me if there was a tranpose button on it...because I could not see it...anyway  I started playing and he was like ok lets take it up a key...then again...then again...then again...lol...let's just say if I didn't know how to play in every key I was going to be in a hot mess...so here is the lesson to be learned....either learn to play in every key ...or find out what kind of keyboard...they got before hand...lol...thought I would make someone laugh...I know that some one else had to be in my shoes also...lol...be blessed....

Uh, I own a Kurzweil, and I love it. The only drwback---they are super heavy, even on wheels!

But I feel you with the transpose. If you are on an organ, you don't have the option of a transposing button. Learn your keys!

Amen to that. I've learned the hard way not to rely on the house. Keyboard, stand, cables, amp, down to the powerstrips, I try and bring all the equipment I'll need and more. Maybe I'll get a chairfrom the venue.
You never know what you're going to find.

Bring your own gear, you'll be thankful you did.

That's true...I have done that. But as a musician, wouldn't you WANT TO know your keys. I mean what's the point in being a musician if you don't strive to be better. That transpose button can become a crutch.

What if something happens along the way to a church and you don't have time to set up your equipment. The only option would be to use that church's stuff. That has haappened to me. It is a disruption to be setting up your gear during a worship service.

i've learned the hard way not too rely on transpose. our church has a kurzweil and it sounds great but it's sooo hard to get around PERIOD. you have to use the 4" thick manual to do layers, splits, loops, all that.  my choice for a NEW board...a motif.
Sorry if the band seems too loud tonight.  Now go tear Psalms 150 from your bible and sit down. ;-)

I been playing Kurzweils for about 5 years and the first year was HARD cause I was transposing but after that...it became easier to use (from Pc88 to the PC2x which is the upgrade version of PC88) cause I got used to the setups and didn't need transpose anymore cause if you was doing midi setups like bass/piano and want to transpose you have to transpose EACH zone. So not using transpose saves a lot of trouble. But I to the point that I may take my own equipment if I want to. 100% of the time I take my stuff if I go to a place that I never been before or know that they have very poor equipment in the church. Other than that I don't take it...imagine 60lb keyboard and 60lb amp (both rolands sometime Kurzweil keyboard LOL!) and take that everywhere....not I!
