hi there,
it is good to be modest, but be modest and still be confident.witout confidence i do not think anyone can survive in the singing business.singing is not just about voice ,it is also about how you carry yourself.

so it is an holistic thing that speaks to people, not only voice.

yet, voice is the first and most obvious thing people sees,so it may be the main instrument  ,but not all.

WELL I CONSIDER MYSELF AN "ALRIGHT SINGER".  I'VE ONLY LED A FEW SONGS IN MA LIFETIME.  I'M CONSIDERED MORE AS A STRONG TENOR FOR THE CHOIR THOUGH CAUSE I'M "LOUD" (IS THAT GOOD OR BAD, NEVA MIND).

BUT I DO AIGHT!

I like the way I sing but I could be better.  Criticism has been nothing but a motivator for me.  I can do a few things w/ my voice others can't but I know I haven't figured it all out.   I like to learn from everyone and mimick as much as I can.  The harshest reviews I get are from myself but by evaluating my own singing and not despising others comments I am much further along today than I was yesterday.

hey

im wit da otha sista on that one. use a tape recorder. it helps me out a lot, especially when it comes to teaching my choir a new song. just rememba that you are singing to the glory of God,rather if you get evaluated by person or thing. its what your heart brings to your voice. cuz some people can sing like an angel ,but the spirit not move you to the place of worship. the anointing destroys every yolk of bondage and doubt and fear. Let the anointing move you,you know what the anointing is your evaluator, boy let me get off here for i start preaching this morning. my god,my god, glory to god. i just feel like giving god some praise dis morning how bout you?

;D  well i have been told i'am a great singer but sometimes i feel that i know i god do better like learning to use my fuales satual when doing solo's and learing music terms like riffs and etc. but i agree with the tape recorde but also try to do some stuff that involes other things such as adklivebing in songs and listing to other but close relative music like blues and jazz notes and rythm that u could incoporate into to gospel.  :P

I'onno.... I get a lot of that where people want to say they can sing and can't.... and then vice versa.... Scares me cause the vocally impaired people always say that God gave them that voice... then my question would be, yeah, but are you sure He said to use it this way??? I think that the people who can sing and down play themselves is 2-fold... Either they are modest and humbling themselves, or they know that they can blow, and they just want to hear a person keep telling them they can, so they can say the can't... But I think that anything to the glory of God is acceptable. .... A persons attitude can make a big diff... I sweet spirited, holy and anointed person with no vocals sounds a lot better than an over confident, arrogant talented gifted person...

I know that I can make more than a joyful noise; but I do stay yielded to the holy ghost. He makes up for what I think I can't do.
God knows the plans He has for me......Jer 29:11

I agree with Bishopcole, tape yourself, and be very truthful, with yourself, and you should be able to tell where you are.

I gave this same advise to my wife,it really helped her alot. She's not were she wants to be,but she's trying real hard, with the truth of were she is now.

I'de like to see us do a duet in the near future...

i'm modest too,i know i can hold my own,but i don't get big headed,because i know for who,and why i sing.
Let your voice, be one voice, to Glorify the Lord.
