You guys just 'hijacked' this thread.   Let's get back on track.  I also tapped on them on Friday at Drums2Go.  I didn't hit them enough to get a good A/B comparison (read: A/B comparison with the Legacy and the Evolution cymbals).   ;D

Are all of the abov mentioned flat? I just picked up the Sabian Sound Catalog, I like the way the HHX Manhattan and HHX Groove Ride look. Also the Tri-top ride?

Forgive me if this is wrong and please correct me if I should think differently. But I am not just going for a cymbals sound. I want a jaw dropping eye catching cymbal too!  :o :o :o Something that looks unique that not everybody has. Like for example, I saw some Meinl Byzance Dark finish cymbals, awww man, to me they were beautiful. Bronze with nice dark black hammer marks all over. I want something other than just the standard bronze looking blaaah cymbal.

God Bless.

Man, these hijackers... **bumping** my post. need an answer or 2.

Ultimatley it is a waste of money to chose a cymbal on looks. THe ugliest cymbals generally sound better unfortunatley.

I own the Tri Top for 3 years now and it is a first rate cymbal. The Salsalero has a very unique look and sound a lot like the Tri-Top to the point my wife wowuld not let me buy it because it sounds just like my Tri-Top. She felt I should expand my sound and she is not a drummer.

The Crystal ride and the Prototype I mentioned are flat the others are not.

Has anyone else got a chance to platy them yet?

I bought the 17" Legacy crash yesterday and it sounds real good.  The sound is dark with a bit of trashiness and is very responsive.  It makes a good combo with the 16" O Zone.

I have 6 on my setup not including the hats (12").  I plane to add a set of hats to my right side via x-hat and anthoer set to my left. 13" & 14 or 13" 15" on the left and 12" on the right.

I don't like the Metal Ride. The AAX Stage is the best Ride in the AAX line in my opinion... reference Lil John Roberts uses it in a 22".... the 20" and 22" are on the 21" is a bit quirky.

I recommend the Signature Tri-Top if you are looking for a nice cutting sound. I own one and it is very versatile. Much more musical than the Metal Ride. I have used in church, Rock , clubs and it holds it down.

I guess that I'll have the dissenting opinion:  I wasn't feeling them at all.  I like the K Custom Hybrids better.   ;D

I'll stick with the Evolutions!   ;D

And the way I am feeling, I think they never used to be, but they are now. I am really liking the Hand Hammered and HHX lines...and I gotta try some Signatures.

God Bless.

What is your Ride and Hat choice? I just drew a blank. I think they are called Fusion hats? They have holes in the bottom hat and I know they are available in a few different lines. How are those hats?

Here are my cymbals (all are in brilliant finish):

Sabian's 7" Signature Mike Portnoy Max Splash
Sabian's 10" HHX Evolution Splash
Zildjian's 12" A Custom Mastersound Hi-Hats
Sabian's 13" AAX Fusion Hi-Hats
Sabian's 16" Hand Hammered Dark Crash
Sabian's 17" AAXPlosion Crash
Sabian's 18" Hand Hammered Dark Crash
Sabian's 18" Vault Crash
Sabian's 18" HHX O-Zone Crash
Zildjian's 18" A Custom China
Sabian's 21" Hand Hammered Raw Bell Dry Ride

The AAX Fusion Hats are extremely defined and has a fair amount of wash when played halfway open (considering the extreme weight of the bottom cymbal, which is hand hammered - it also has two 'extra' holes on the opposite sides of the cup) - they record really well.

Regarding the ride cymbal, the Hand Hammered Raw Bell Dry Ride is also defined from the bell to the bow, with minimal wash (but just enough spread to it).  It is a very crisp sounding ride, and I feel that the contrasting tonal spectrum compliments the AAX Fusion Hats (and my 12" A Custom Mastersound Hi-Hats, which I also use a my main pair from time to time) really well - the hats and the ride are crisp and defined.  What about the bell?  Well, the bell is also very nice.  I wish that it were a little bigger, but that would take away from the 'dry' attribute of the cymbal.

All in all, I made my choice from the sound clips that are located on sabian.com.  I then ordered the hats from indoorstorm.com and the ride (along with the others, except for the Vault Crash, AAXPlosion Crash, A Custom Mastersound Hi-Hats and A Custom China)from massmusic.net.  Risky, I know, but I lucked up on some really excellent sounding cymbals.   ;D

I hope that this answered your question.   ;D

sabian are really pushing boundaries - more so than any line...

with paiste you dont really ever get away from a clean sound - even the dark energies.

zildjian are just very plain cymbals in my opinion.

sabian have aa metal-x through to vault and artisan straight to something like the o-zone!

i have 15" hhxtreme protoype hats, 18" and 20" hhx ozones, 14" sabian jack dejohnette first series, 14" sabian will calhoun mad hats and then a load of paistes, including trads, dark energies, sigs and sound creation!

Yes it does. Thanks. The Fusion hats are the main hats from Sabian that have stood out to me. So I am just not sure which line yet.

God Bless.
