MEN OF THE BIBLE!
« on: January 18, 2006, 09:52:38 AM »
Will someone please ask Daddy (God) to slow the roll for a minute?  My goodness!  Last night, while we were getting ready to start play rehearsal, Pastor asked me to do a special project for Men's Month (May) this year.  He wants the men of the church to do a small production on the Men of the Bible....written and directed by yours truly, of course.  I gave him the usual stalling phrase "give me a minute to pray about it and get past Choir Day", and he said "Choir Day is in April and Men's Month is in May".  Could that be his way of saying "work now...pray later" - who knows?

Anyway, in the shower this morning God gave me the title "A Man After God's Own Heart", which would portray various characters of the Bible and relate them to men of today and feature our boy David as the star of the show teaching other men how they can be men "after God's Own Heart".

BUT I NEED SOME GROUP PARTICIPATION HERE (from Bboy and the other scholars).  I hate common, routine things and am trying to steer clear of Abraham, Noah, and Sampson.  Can you guys recommend someone else?  You don't have to tell me the stories....just point me to a chapter and verse and I'll do the research and ask you any questions afterwards (unless you just can't hold your peace).

IF YOU ARE NOT A SCHOLAR....please answer this question for me.  What do YOU think today's men could do to become men after God's own heart?

Everyone who says "anything" is going to be mentioned in my "thank-you's" on the program.

NOW...that makes a Youth Explosion in JAN, a play in FEB, the all-original concert in MAR, choir day with Dianne in APR, and now another production in MAY......a larger than life production in AUG with a repeat performance in another city in SEP.....mass choir annual concert in OCT....and the big Christmas play in DEC.  IMAGINE THAT!

BIG QUESTION

(God, please let Bboy read this!)

If we're doing Men of the Bible, is it an INSULT if Jesus is not one of them?  Especially if the title is "Men After God's Own Heart".  I'm stumped on that one!

Some men in the Bible made the same mistakes that we make today and overcame them in their quest to please God more so than self or other people.  David will likely be the "star of the show" so to speak but there are others.  But these men give us something to strive for that we can actually do.  Being "just like Jesus" sounds good in a song and we all should strive....but some people are so far away from there....that they don't even see it as being humanly possible.  I want to portray regular men who lived in that time who did all they could to live an honorable life before God or men who sinned and found forgiveness in the worst of circumstances.  But I don't want to insult the Holy Spirit by not making Jesus one of those men.

What is a brutha to do?

I would go to ACTS....  Peter, the boldest of the Apostles, I like the story of him praying on the roof and him torn about the idea of taking the gospel to the gentiles.   Paul who was Saul and his conversion after he was smote of the horse.  Let us not forget Job and his dedication to serving God.  Isaiah 6:1-8 where the angel touched his lips with the coal and took his iniquity away.

That's all I can think of at the moment

You have to remember Jesus IS God.  When Jesus told the Apostles in Matthew 28 to go baptising in THE NAME of the Father, and in THE NAME of the Son and in THE NAME of the Holy Ghost, that is what they did in Acts.

Acts 2:38

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in THE NAME of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

They had the understanding that Jesus was THAT NAME of all.  They carried out the instructions of Jesus rather than just repeat what Jesus told them to do.

Peach,
I don't think you would be excluding Jesus, because I'm sure that in the stories of these men, Jesus will play an important role, but more the divine aspect of him rather than from the human standpoiint.  I like Kad's suggestion of the Peter story, and the Isaiah one.

I'm praying for you, I hope you haven't taken on more than you can handle, but I know God will be your help, and I pray that he send you some capable hands to lighten the load.

God bless.

What about Stephen (who was stoned)

You could reenact the scene. Not all of it, but the gist of it.

Mordecai resided is Susa which is outside of Persia.  He adopted his cousing who was Esther and bought her up as his own daughter.  She was orphaned at an early age.  Esther was bought up in the King's Harem and was made Queen after the former Queen was disposed of (long story).  Mordecai was promoted to a very high office by the King.  During his stay in office he discoved a plot be the eunuchs to put the king to death and was able to foil the plot.

Haman, who was raised to the highest position in King Ahasuerus' court he dispised Haaman for being a Jew with favor with the King and devised a plot to rid him by scheming against all Jews in the kingdom.  Mordecai again heard of the plot and communicated it to the Queen who was his adopted daughter who then told the King.

Haman built gallows that were to be used to kill Moredcai and the Jews but was in turn killed in those same gallows that he built for those he hated.

There is more to the story but that is the jist of it.

Well, Peach, you may as well go ahead and sign yourself up for monthly Massage therapy now...You booked yourself for the entire year.  You gotta think though, why does the pastor always ask YOU?  (Maybe because you're the most dependable person?)   :)   A blessing and a curse.

I can't remember the guy's name in the Bible, but he was checking out this other guy's wife while she was out in a forier (or something) and he sent the woman's hubby off to war so that he'd be killed and then he could covet the guy's wife as his own.  Somebody help me out here, brain fart!  What's his name???

The Deacon who is President of the "I Hate Herman" club and the one who initiated the whole "He can't be Minister of Music and on payroll because he's Pastor's grandson", and the co-signer of the "why pay a recording artist to sing for God when people are supposed to do that for free" campaign......would be perfect for Stephen!  And I'd be the perfect stoner!

As stated earlier, I've been there, my brother. That's why I had to leave.
