Singing with a cold
« on: December 05, 2005, 09:09:20 AM »
Hello,

Can you please give me some tips on how to take care of my voice when I have a cold. Is there any remedies that heals cold quickly without harming the vocal cords.

Thanks.

Pray, Get lots of rest, take vitamin C, drink lots of water, inhale warm steam like over a pot or something, drink Throat Coat tea (You can get it at GNC), Do vocal warm ups with humming before you sing, Take Cold Eeze cough drops. Hope this helps. God bless. 8)
Seven days without prayer makes one weak.

I think the key is to not talk for a few hours.

You can try a drop of saline solution by way of the nasal passage.  This is known to break up mucous in the airways.

naw I'm just playing, I just don't say nothing until I have to sing, and use a lot of cough drops.

Make sure the water you drink lots of is tepid or soothingly warm ~ never ice cold!  Putting a little honey in warm water is also good.  So vocal rest & plenty of fluids are the key.

Being that I seem to always get sick before a major performance, I know alot of vocal people who have recommended Vitamin C and here is one...MUCINEX. You can get it over the counter now. Just make sure to drink plenty of water with it because it will dry you out, but it works wonders.
