Song Progressions (HELP)!!!!!! Please
« on: April 12, 2013, 10:35:16 AM »
I just joined a new church this past week and have already been invited into the music ministry. The church is of C.O.G.I.C denominatin, the M.O.M. told me they do some contemporary but mostly traditional. I need to work on hearing and picking out certain progressions. Where can I go to find songs with the same progressions . I quess what I'm looking for is if I choose a1-4-5 progression I can find a list of songs with that progression, so forth and so on with other progressions. Any and all help will be much appreciated, thanks in advance.

Most of the traditional gospel songs that you run into are 1-4-5 progressions.  As an example, I will use a popular one in my area.  Glory, Glory, Hallelujah.

(1)  Glory Glory, Hallelujah,  since I

(4)  laid my, burden

(1)  down. (5) burden down

(1)  Glory,  Glory,  Hallelu (4) jah,  snce I

(1)  laid my (5) burdens (1) down.

Note that some songs go from the one to the six, though, such as "I'm Gonna Hide behind that old Mountain"  Notice the sound of the change.  Soon you will know when a song is going that way.

Look at Ferrente's posting of songs.  He has a lot of 1-4-5 songs chorded on this site.
